TEACHING METHODS
What are your objectives?
o To allow the student to have a speaking opportunity.
o To introduce new vocabulary and expressions.
o To check grammar and comprehension during discussion.
o To polish pronunciation.
o To let the student express, expound, and elaborate his or her
ideas using expressions and proper grammar construction.
o To develop the student’s confidence in speaking.
Typing down corrections on the lesson
Proceed with the topic
o Make the students read the questions aloud and answer
o Check for mispronunciations
o Gauge the student’s comprehension
- If the student found it hard to understand – simplify or
rephrase the questions
- Identify the vocabularies and explain
Make some warm-up questions / Opening Spiels
o Related to the topic
o Ask more, listen carefully, and talk less (allow speaking
opportunity)
During discussion
o Don’t share your opinion unless asked by the student
o Keep it short and simple.
o Remember that the class is designed for the student to talk, so do not
consume their time talking about your opinion
o Never force your opinion
o Avoid arguing with your student
o Avoid asking too personal questions
o Avoid questions about sex
o Avoid sharing personal matters or problems
o Never offer any business to a student
Before ending the class / Recap/ Objectives
o Ask the student about their final thought about the topic
o Ask if there are any more questions
o When correcting a student - Can be done before or after the student talk,
however, cutting the student while talking is not a good idea. (This set
up depends on the level or arrangement with your student)
o Rephrase the sentences accordingly. Keep it simple and avoid using
complicated tenses.
o Review the mispronounced words
o Explain the vocabularies and expressions
Give homework (depends on the student)
o Use the given words in a sentence
o Practice the mispronounced words correctly (Refreshment Exercise)
o Sentence Construction
o Writing, Grammar,
o Vocabulary (Sentence Construction)
o Essay Writing-
POINTERS
➢ Preparation is needed
➢ Keep in mind the things that you shouldn’t do in class
➢ Master the expressions and idioms found in the book
o Look for any synonyms
o Grammar rules
➢ Be creative in class
o Do some activities before the class
o Have a short game with your student before the class (optional)
▪ Should be educational
IMPORTANT REMINDERS!
1. Don't share documents from your personal accounts
2. Don't inform the students in phil time the hour of their classes
3. Fill out the class stamp, following
(1 strength, 1 weakness), and summary of hours
4. Inform supervisors in case of any issue, ill or absence.
5. Google Hangouts and google documents
6. FREETALK won't be allowed
anymore in conducting classes
especially without lesson material link.
You are allowed to have a small talk
with students but not intended for the
whole class time.
