a type of a discussion
where two or more
speakers talk for 10-20
mins , develop individual
approaches of solutions
to a problem or present
aspects of a policy ,
process , or programme.
This is a technique of
higher learnings.

The word “SYMPOSIUM” has several
dictionary meanings . Plato used this term is
intellectual recreation or enjoyment.The main
purpose of symposium is to provide an
understanding to students or listeners on the
theme or problem specifically to develop
certain value of feelings.
DEFINITION:
Symposium is defined as a teaching
technique that serves as an excellent method for
informing the audiences , crystalizing their
opinion & preparing them for arriving at decision
regarding a particular issue or a topic.
PURPoses OF SYMPOSIUM:
 To identify & understand various aspects of the
theme & problems.
 To develop the ability to come to a decision and
provide judgement regarding a problem.
 To develop values & feelings regarding a
problem.
 To enable the listeners from policies regarding
a theme or problem.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SYMPOSIUM:

take decisions about a problems.

ADVANTAGES OF SYMPOSIUM:

 Organization is good as speeches are prepared
beforehand.

DISADVANTAGES OF SYMPOSIUM
• It provides inadequate opportunity for all students
to participate actively.
• The speech is limited to 15-20 min.
• Question & answers limited to only 3-4 min.
• It has limitef audience participation.
• It has possibility of overlapping of subjects.

 There is probability of repetation of content.
