Hacking Your Way to Better Security - ZendCon 2016Colin O'Dell
This talk educates developers on common security vulnerabilities, how they are exploited, and how to protect against them. We'll explore several of the OWASP Top 10 attack vectors like SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, and others. Each topic will be approached from the perspective of an attacker to see how these vulnerabilities are detected and exploited using several realistic examples. We'll then apply this knowledge to see how web applications can be secured against such vulnerabilities.
PHP is the most commonly used server-side programming and deployed more than 80% in web server all over the world. However, PHP is a 'grown' language rather than deliberately engineered, making writing insecure PHP applications far too easy and common. If you want to use PHP securely, then you should be aware of all its pitfalls.

For more than a decade, organizations trust in network perimeter protection such as firewalls or intrusion prevention systems to protect their IT infrastructures from the internet threats. However, traditional network security protection may not be sufficient to safeguard from the new threats targetting security flaws in web servers and web applications. In order to defend the threats related to these services and applications, it is essential to understand the risks commonly found in web applications.
This presentation explains the needs of application security as the last line of defense, common web application risks and security measures need to be implemented alongside the development of web applications.

I started working at Kiatnakin Bank PLC as Head of IT Security in 2014 and introduced secure software development to the firm. So I want to share my experience how my bank adopts secure software development successfully. I wish this could be the example to other organizations using to make secure software process for their own.
Secure code review is probably the most effective technique to identify security bugs early in the system development lifecycle.
When used together with automated and manual penetration testing, code review can significantly increase the cost effectiveness of an application security verification effort. This presentation explain how can we start secure code review effectively.

Automating Your Workflow with Gulp.js - php[world] 2016Colin O'Dell
Gulp is a powerful utility for automating development workflows. Tasks are written using code, not configuration, enabling the easy creation of highly-custom and flexible automations. This talk introduces developers to the core concepts of gulp.js, and how to leverage it for new & existing projects. We’ll cover several examples of common tasks for managing CSS, JS and PHP, including: compiling Sass, minifying files, running PHP tests, checking code styles, ensuring legacy browser support & more.
Rise of the Machines: PHP and IoT - php[world] 2016Colin O'Dell
The Internet of Things (IoT) is fundamentally changing how we interact with the digital world. In this talk, we’ll explore the implementation of live examples which bridge the gap between the physical and digital world using PHP: asking Alexa for information on php[world] conference sessions; displaying API data on an Arduino-powered display; using PHP to control LEDs on a Raspberry Pi to monitor application uptime; and connecting IR sensors to Slack to see whether a conference room is in use.
Software bugs are inevitable; some are especially difficult to track down, causing you to waste countless hours before throwing your hands up in defeat. It doesn't have to be this way! The mental fatigue and wasted time can be avoided by using strategies like identifying the most-appropriate tool, taking a logical & objective approach, challenging assumptions, listening to variables, isolating the code path, and reinforcing code with automated tests. Attendees will learn how to combine these techniques with the right mindset and attitude in order to debug their code quickly and effectively.
The PHP 7 release is just around the corner, bringing some much-desired changes and improvements to the language. However, many developers simply aren't aware of what's coming. We'll remedy this by checking out the new "spaceship operator," demonstrating how static type hints produce clean code, and using anonymous classes to quickly implement interfaces on the fly. Attendees will also learn about breaking changes and "gotchas" to watch out for when making the upgrade and will receive pointers on getting started with PHP 7 today.
Are you sick of Merge Hell? Do your feature branches go rogue? Do you spend more time fiddling with your Version Control System than doing actual development work? Then Trunk Based Development might be for you. Facebook does it. Google does it. Instead of messing with multiple branches, just use your master branch. Always. In addition to giving you an overview about how Trunk Based Development works, where it shines and where the pitfalls are, this talk will also cover the necessary techniques to succeed with it, such as Branch By abstraction, Feature Toggles and backwards compatible Database Migrations.

GeeCon.cz - Integration Testing from the Trenches RebootedNicolas Fränkel
Years after Kent Beck provided JUnit, unit testing is part of most developer teams tooling. However, there’s a trend that tends to threaten unit testing, claiming only integration testing can truly detects defects in software. In this talk, we will first define what unit testing and integration testing are, and their respective pros, cons and uses. Then, we will have a look at the unique challenges posed by integration testing. Finally, tools and techniques will be presented to somewhat remedy to that so that integration testing becomes a true asset in each software developer bag of tricks.
OpenNebulaConf2019 - Welcome and Project Update - Ignacio M. Llorente, Rubén ...OpenNebula Project
We've made our way into the world of open cloud — where each organization can find the right cloud for its unique needs. A single cloud management platform cannot be all things to all people. There will be a cloud space with several offerings focused on different environments and/or industries. The OpenNebula commitment to the open cloud is at the very base of its mission — to become the simplest cloud enabling platform — and its purpose — to bring simplicity to the private and hybrid enterprise cloud. OpenNebula exists to help companies build simple, cost-effective, reliable, open enterprise clouds on existing IT infrastructure. The OpenNebula Conference will be a great opportunity to communicate and share our vision and commitment, to look back at how the project has grown in the last 9 years, and to shed some insight into what to expect from the project in the near future.

Fighting legacy with hexagonal architecture and frameworkless phpFabio Pellegrini

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
