This document describes a series of workshops for students on the topic of chocolate. In the first workshop, students learn about the cultivation of cocoa from a description of a worker on a Ghanaian cocoa plantation who checks the cocoa trees each morning for ripe pods. Students then create a presentation and write a newspaper article on cocoa cultivation. The second workshop has students visit a chocolate factory where they learn about quality control and roasting from the factory owner, then create another presentation on chocolate production. The final workshop tasks students with creating a chocolate quiz for a farewell party, using the information provided to make different types of questions to play against students from other countries.

Workshop : On a cocoa plantation I
You are a journalist who visits a cocoa plantation in Ghana. One of
the workers there tells you:
„Every morning I check on the cocoa trees
on the plantation whether one of the pods
is ripe – unlike European fruit trees, cocoa
trees have blossoms and ripe fruit at the
same time! Whenever I find a ripe fruit, I
cut it from the tree with a machete. Then I
cut open the pod and remove the seeds…”

who work here inspect beans carefully
when they arrive. When the quality is fine,
machines take over and clean the beans.

rotating cylinders…”
Prepare a presentation about the production of chocolate!

Workshop : A chocolate quiz
Create a chocolate quiz for our farewell-party!
Use the given information to prepare interesting, funny… questions.
Make different kinds of questions: right-/wrong-questions, multiple
choice, questions to guess……
You can also design a simple power point-presentation which
illustrates the questions, possible answers (multiple choice) and/or
the solutions.
Choose one group member to be the entertaining quizmaster.
You can use prompt cards.
Practice.
Each country will play against the other countries! The winning team
will even get a prize!!! ☺
