Alan Smith plans to take nature photographs and alter them in Photoshop to look scary. He will combine landscape and wildlife images on a single layer and add artificial shadows and eyes to trees to create a surreal effect mimicking Jerry Uelsmann's work. The photographs will be taken in the countryside with a DSLR camera and edited using techniques like double exposure and altered levels/saturation to merge landscape images with body parts for an experimental photography project.

I am going to take a set of Photographs in the theme of Nature. These will include normal every day images from
landscape to wildlife, however they will be altered on Photoshop in order to look scary and create some fear.
I am looking to combine two of the four options given for the task to challenge myself and experiment with different
mediums.
This will be done through post production and changing the levels as well as the colour saturation. Having multiple
images on one layer will help with the final outcome.
The images will be taken in the style of Jerry Uelsmann’s pieces and have a surreal aspect to them.
For example, an image of a forest in the day will be edited into black and white and having artificial shadows will help
enhance the effect.
I would then develop onto this image and have another photograph inside it, such as a tree in the foreground with
eyes visible. This would be created through Photoshop, layering the images and changing the opacity. Double
Exposure may be used for this effect.
The images will be taken at the countryside and with a DSLR Camera. The reason behind merging two ideas is that I
believe this is what the topic is about, Experimenting with Photography. I am choosing to experiment with not only
Photographs and Photoshop but different themes.
The subjects chosen will be of the surroundings where my location is. For the eyes and other body parts used to
partner the work I will use myself. This is to save time, making sure it is more reliable and not to have a large
contingency plan. This will also save with the filling of forms for images to be taken.
