Task 3: Audience Profiling Research
Stereotypical avatars
Primary Audience
I have chosen to create 4 stereotypical avatars of Star
Wars fans. This is my first avatar who is a middle-aged
woman. On the NRS Social demographic scale their
social status would be working class which is a social
grade of D. This avatar would be a semi and unskilled
manual worker who would obsess over star wars in her
spare time. On the 4CS Scale this avatar would be the
Struggler as they would live for the day and make few
plans for the next. This would include going to star
wars conventions
and using their spending power on little action figures a
t-shirts. This particular avatar is a big fan of Maz Kanata
and is dressed wearing her big circular goggles.
However, to the right is my avatar in her normal clothes
holding a lightsabre. Maz Kanata is more than a
thousand years old, a diminutive being with vast
experience at surviving in the underworld. In terms of
gratification this avatar likes diversion. They escape
from everyday problems and routines by relaxing and
filling time and emotional release with enjoyment. This
avatar fills time by re-watching all the star wars over and over again.
This is my Second avatar who is
a middle aged man. On the NRS
Social Demographic scale the
social status of this avatar is
upper middle class and they
have a social grade of A. On the
4CS Scale they are The Aspirer
as their core need in life is for
status. This particular avatar,
outside of their work life, is
obsessed with star wars and Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren is from the dark side and this avatar wears
dark clothes to portray this look. This avatar even has a Kylo Ren mask and red lightsaber
just like Kylo Ren in the filmThe Force Awakens. The lightsaber shows that this avatar is
ready for a battle and the fact that it is red and not blue shows he is evil. In terms of
gratification this avatar also likes the entertainment and escapismstar wars brings him. For
example, watching star wars is a great way to escape from everything as it involves a lot of
action, spaceships and explosions which is good entertainment and gets the audience
exited. Also, they like to build personal relationships. This avatar has watched all the star

wars and feels like they are friends or enemies with all the old characters and likes building
relationships with the new characters. In terms of spending power this avatar is very
wealthy and would spend a lot of money on very old star wars merchandise which could be
very expensive and worth a lot of money. They would have a room full of antiques and
valuables all related to all the different star wars and this avatar would be very proud of this
room.
Secondary Audience
This avatar is a young girl who would be aged between
5-10 years of age. On the NRS social demographic scale
her and her family would be skilled working class people
which gives them a social grade of C2. This avatar and
her family would be a huge fan of star wars and watch it
all the time. On the 4CS scale this avatar would be the
explorer as she looks up to Rey, who is driven by a need
for discovery. This avatar loves how there is a dominant
female character who loves to explore and therefore
likes to dress up and explore just like how Rey does. The
avatar is wearing a ‘Rey outfit’ for scavenging desert
planets, making speedy escapes, and other adventures. It is a nude tunic which is what Rey
wears in the film, the avatar is also placed in the dessert which is where she was first seen in
The Force Awakens. She is also holding a weapon as Rey is very good with weapons and in
action situations. In terms of gratification this avatar is finding a personal identity. For
example, while watching star wars this young female avatar would learn behaviours and
values from the character of Rey. As this avatar is only young they do not have a lot of
spending power, however when they get a little bit of pocket money or extra change they
insist on getting more ‘Rey costumes’ to wear and posters to stick in their room.
This is my Last stereotypical
avatar. It is a young boy aged
between 5-13 years old. On the
NRS Social demographic scale
their family’s social status would
be lower middle class which
would give them a social grade of
C1. This avatar would attend
school every day and would go
home and watch star wars films
with their family. On the 4CS Scale this avatar would be The Succeeder as they would
possess self-confidence and have strong goals. This particular avatar loves Finn and how he
was a storm trooper and became a good guy. They are wearing a storm trooper outfit while
holding a red lightsabor which shows they are from the dark side. However there is also a
picture of the avatar without his helmet, showing that he is good underneath just like Finn,
which is shown in the filmas he left the dark side. In terms of gratification, this avatar would

audience
build a personal relationship with the characters,
especially Finn. This young boy would submit star
wars for social life and would always have a
conversation just on star wars. In terms of
spending power, this avatar would save up all
their pennies just to buy the different coloured
lightsabres and all the weapons they can find in
shops, so they can battle with their friends or in
their room after school. In this picture here is my
avatar with two other coloured lightsabres.
