Lance De Mole invented the first tank in 1912. He got the idea for a tracked armored vehicle after creating a scale model. The tank remained highly secret during World War 1, with the British claiming it was a water carrier to deceive enemies. Tanks are still used in modern militaries, such as in wars in Pakistan and Afghanistan, as they allow soldiers to destroy buildings and aircraft while remaining protected.
