Taking Up Your Cross Daily
“I guess we all have our cross to bear.”
Luke 9:23-24: This statement is so much
deeper than putting up with trouble in life.
It calls to mind the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
We are to take up our cross one day at a time—
and take that approach seriously.
Imagine walking the streets in Jerusalem and
hearing threats directed at you.
Taking up a cross means a proclamation of guilt.
Taking Up Your Cross Daily
When we hear about taking up a cross, we
should hear …
 Rom. 12:1: Living sacrifices.
 Gal. 2:20: Christ is in control.
 Rom. 6:1-7: We crucify our old self with Christ.
 Eph. 4:22-32: Put off our old selves.
 Col. 3:3-10: Put to death what is earthly in us.
Rom. 6:16: We are a slave to someone or thing.
Eph. 2:3: We were, by nature, children of wrath.
Taking Up Your Cross Daily
Three practical matters …
 We face every day fresh (I Cor. 10:12).
 It’s not a one-time shot (I John 1:9).
 We do this one day at a time.
Satan is not taking a nap (Luke 4:13; I Pet. 5:8).
The seeming paradox of cross-bearing life.
 We are giving up control of our lives for real life.
Rom. 6:15-23: Only when we enslave ourselves to
Christ that we can truly be set free.
True life comes by picking up our cross daily.
