New features have been added to the TAIR database including GO term enrichment tools, new locus page bands with gene family, tree viewer and plant homolog information, and over 16,000 genes now have new annotation data. The document provides details on the new GO term enrichment analysis tools, locus page bands showing gene families, tree viewers, and plant homologs. It also lists the new types and amounts of data added to TAIR in 2016, including gene names, summaries, GO and plant ontology annotations from over 1,400 research articles. GWA studies are perhaps most often used for studying the genetic basis of human diseases, but this technology also has great utility for studying the natural variation of other organisms.
In this webcast, Ashley Hintz, Field Application Scientist, will discuss the utility of SVS for analyzing plant GWA data, using publicly available SNP data for Arabidopsis thaliana as a case study. Along the way, Ashley will demonstrate how SVS can be used to manage data, analyze population structure, perform genotype QA and ultimately replicate a published genetic association in A. thaliana using EMMAX regression. She will also address the flexibility of SVS for analyzing the genomes of other plant and animal species.

The EPA’s CompTox Chemicals Dashboard (https://comptox.epa.gov/dashboard) is a publicly accessible website providing access to data for ~770,000 chemical substances, the majority of these represented as chemical structures. The web application delivers a wide array of computed and measured physicochemical properties, in vitro high-throughput screening data and in vivo toxicity data, product use information extracted from safety data sheets, and integrated chemical linkages to a growing list of literature, toxicology, and analytical chemistry websites. The application provides access to segregated lists of chemicals that are of specific interest to relevant stakeholders, including Per- & Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) containing thousands of chemicals. A procured testing library of hundreds of PFAS chemicals annotated into chemical categories has been integrated into the dashboard with a number of resulting benefits: a searchable database of chemical properties, with hazard and exposure predictions, and links to the open literature. Several specific search types have been developed to directly support the mass spectrometry non-targeted screening community, enabling cohesive workflows to support data generation for the detection and assessment of environmental exposures to chemicals contained within DSSTox. This presentation will provide an overview of the dashboard, the ongoing expansion of the PFAS chemical library, with associated categorization, and new physicochemical property and environmental fate and transport QSAR prediction models developed for these chemicals. The application of the dashboard to support mass spectrometry non-targeted analysis studies for the identification of PFAS chemicals will also be reviewed. Linked data may hold the potential to solve some classic serials dilemmas like latest vs. successive entry, or single vs. multiple records for print and online. How do these hopes mesh with the evolving current state of linked data projects in the commercial and library sector as well as with LC’s Bibframe initiative? The speakers will provide three different perspectives. An “early experimenter” and member of the Bibframe group modeling serials will discuss her experiences and thoughts on future directions. A publisher from a company that has reorganized some of its infrastructure and processes to facilitate linked data will share the goals and provide examples of the benefits of that project. Finally, the head of the U.S. ISSN Center will take an ISSN perspective as well as compare international work modeling serials according to FRBR-OO (object-oriented) with the Bibframe serials modeling effort. Audience input will be solicited in order to provide an exchange of ideas and viewpoints. (moderated by Laurie Kaplan)

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Computational Toxicology Program integrates advances in biology, chemistry, and computer science to help prioritize chemicals for further research based on potential human health risks. This involves computational and data-driven approaches that integrate chemistry, exposure and biological data. The National Center for Computational Toxicology (NCCT) has measured, assembled and delivered an enormous quantity and diversity of data for the environmental sciences, including high-throughput in vitro screening data, in vivo and functional use data, exposure models and chemical databases with associated properties. The CompTox Chemicals Dashboard is a web-based application providing access to data associated with ~875,000 chemical substances. New data are continuously added to the database on an ongoing basis, along with registration of new and emerging chemicals. This includes data extracted from the literature, identified by our analytical labs, and otherwise of interest to support specific research projects to the agency. By adding these data, with their associated chemical identifiers (names and CAS Registry Numbers), the dashboard uses linking approaches to allow for automated searching of PubMed, Google Scholar and an array of public databases. This presentation will provide an overview of the CompTox Chemicals Dashboard, how it has developed into an integrated data hub for environmental data, and how it can be used for the analysis of emerging chemicals in terms of sourcing related chemicals of interest, and deriving read-across as well as QSAR predictions in real time. At the US Environmental Protection Agency the CompTox Chemicals Dashboard (https://comptox.epa.gov/dashboard) is an open chemistry resource and web-based application containing data for ~900,000 substances and supports non-targeted and suspect screening analyses. Searching functionality includes identifier searches (e.g. systematic names, trade names and CAS Registry Numbers), mass and formula-based searches and prototype developments include combined substructure-mass/formula searches and searching experimental mass spectral data against predicted fragmentation spectra. A specific type of data mapping in the database uses “MS-Ready” structures, a way to process all registered substances to separate multi-component chemicals into their individual components, removal of stereochemical bonds and desalting and neutralization. This MS-Ready processing supports batch-searching using either mass or formulae to identify candidate chemicals and their mapped substances. A number of chemical lists (https://comptox.epa.gov/dashboard/chemical_lists) have also been developed to support the identification of chemicals related to agrochemistry, specifically pesticides (both active and inert constituents), insecticides and their metabolites and environmental breakdown products). This presentation will provide an overview of how the CompTox Chemicals Dashboard supports mass spectrometry based structure identification and non-targeted analysis of chemicals in agrochemistry. High resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and non-targeted analysis (NTA) are of increasing interest in chemical forensics for the identification of emerging contaminants and chemical signatures of interest. At the US Environmental Protection Agency, our research using HRMS for non-targeted and suspect screening analyses utilizes databases and cheminformatics approaches that are applicable to chemical forensics. The CompTox Chemicals Dashboard is an open chemistry resource and web-based application containing data for ~900,000 substances. Basic functionality for searching through the data is provided through identifier searches, such as systematic name, trade names and CAS Registry Numbers. Advanced Search capabilities supporting mass spectrometry include mass and formula-based searches, combined substructure-mass searches and searching experimental mass spectral data against predicted fragmentation spectra. A specific type of data mapping in the underpinning database, using “MS-Ready” structures, has proven to be a valuable approach for structure identification that links structures that can be identified via HRMS with related substances in the form of salts, and other multi-component mixtures that are available in commerce. These MS-Ready structures have been used as an input set for computational MS-fragmentation to provide a database against which to search experimental data for spectral matching. This presentation will provide an overview of how the CompTox Chemicals Dashboard supports structure identification and non-targeted analysis in chemical forensics. Mapping the final frontier publishers experiences launching open access journals
The open access landscape has very few roadmaps to guide publishers. Numerous OA journals have launched in the past 6 months, each with different strategies, scopes, audiences, and business models. Join ACS Publications, Nature Publishing Group, and IEEE as they walk through the lessons learned from the process of launching OA journals at their respective organizations. The American Chemical Society's newest journal, ACS Central Science, is the ACS' first attempt at a purely open access journal that has no author fees or subscription fees. The challenges of launching a new publishing model with a new business model have been a vital learning experience as ACS enters this new frontier. VP of New Business Development, Dr. Kevin Davies, will walk through the journal launch process, the impact of shifting to an OA model, the business considerations, and successes/challenges to date in this interactive session. Dr. James Butcher, Associate Director for Open Publishing at Nature Publishing Group, oversees the development of Nature Communications and Scientific Reports and will share how his work with these two journals has challenged NPG to think in new ways about the future of publishing in an open access economy. IEEE's Karen Hawkins is Senior Director, Product Design and manages all new product introductions including IEEE's OA publishing. This panel will be moderated by John Mihalick of ACS Publications. Join them as they share their experiences.

Serving the medicinal chemistry community with Royal Society of Chemistry che...US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is a major participant in providing access to chemistry related data via the web. As an internationally renowned society for the chemical sciences, a scientific publisher and the host of the ChemSpider database for the community, RSC continues to make dramatic strides in providing online access to data. ChemSpider provides access to over 30 million chemicals sourced from over 500 data suppliers and linked out to related information on the web. The platform is a crowdsourcing environment whereby members of the community can participate in validating and expanding the content of the database. With a set of application programming interfaces ChemSpider is used by various organizations and projects to serve up data for various purposes. These include structure identification for mass spectrometry instrument vendors, RSC databases such as the Marinlit natural products database and a European grant-based project from the Innovative Medicines Initiative fund. This presentation will provide an overview of various cheminformatics activities and projects that RSC is involved with to serve the medicinal chemistry community. This will include the Open PHACTS semantic web project, the PharmaSea project to identify new pharmaceutical leads from the ocean and the UK National Compound Collection to identify new lead compounds contained within PhD theses.PhyloTastic: names-based phyloinformatic data integration

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
