This document provides an overview of migration patterns among Miao, Yi, and Tibetan ethnic minority groups in China. It examines case studies of each group in their traditional home provinces of Guizhou, Sichuan, and Qinghai, respectively. The studies are based on interviews and surveys conducted in several villages for each group. Key findings include mass migration by young men for low-wage work, especially in construction, with little ability to improve their social or economic status. Remittances home are typically low and used mostly for daily needs rather than investment. Education levels remain very low among these groups.
