There are three main types of symmetry: reflection or bilateral symmetry which occurs when an object's left and right halves are mirror images; rotational or radial symmetry when identical parts are arranged around a central axis so that slicing the object yields identical segments; and translational symmetry involving repeated patterns. Examples of these symmetries found in a house include a fan with radial symmetry, a car exhibiting bilateral symmetry, and a gate demonstrating translational symmetry through repeating shapes.
