Mrs. Devlin’s Science Class Syllabus for School Year 2008-2009
At the end of the year, you will… know basic general science words and definitions be able to conduct basic experiments and scientific research projects be able to show inquiry skills by being curios and open minded be able to collaborate and work with others understand topics dealing with living organisms, ecology, nature of technology
Required Materials Life Science textbook and workbook (issued by Mrs. Devlin) 1 folder with pockets 1 composition notebook pen or pencil to write with, red pen (to be left in the classroom) Filler paper and white plain paper (for drawing diagrams) Scissors and metric ruler (to be left in the classroom) $5.00 lab (details attached in parent letter)
General Class Rules Have a good attitude Work quietly Ask permission before speaking during class lectures Concentrate while in class Respect others Be on time to class Ask permission before leaving your seat
Grading policies Late assignments receive one letter grade lower After two missed assignments, a note will be sent home for parent signature Each student will complete one science project Too many absences and tardiness will lower class participation grade Class behavior is also graded
Grading scale Attendance / Class participation / overall behavior 25% Classwork (groupwork) / homework 25% Tests / quizzes 25% Projects or Class folder/notebook 25% Total possible points 100% 90%-100% A 80%-89% B 70%-79% C 60%-69% D 59% & below  F
Student / Parent signature Both student and parent(s) are required to sign a copy of the syllabus Signatures are due by August 15 th This is considered the first graded assignment
