The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit
educational and service organization that empowers women
to succeed and advance in the field of engineering. SWE-
UCLA is in the Sonora Region B so our mascot is the bee!

Winter: Wow! That’s Engineering Day
We host ~100 Girl Scouts ranging from 3rd through
10th grades (majority are 3rd through 6th)
Full day event involving presentations for students
and parents, hands on engineering activities for the
Girl Scouts, and a UCLA Engineering club fair
Objective: spark interest in engineering through
hands-on activities

Panel of female faculty and student leadership discussing
women in engineering at UCLA
Students have dinner in the dining halls with UCLA
students and faculty
Students spend the night in the dorms and do activities
with their host
Objective: show what life as a UCLA Engineering student
is like; convince acceptees to attend UCLA HSSEAS

What does the Outreach Commitee do?
From the SWE Mission Statement:
	 To stimulate women to achieve full potential in
	 careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of
	 the engineering profession as a positive force in improving
	 the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
	To inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the
	 general public of the qualifications and achievements of
	 women engineers and the opportunities open to them.
We strive to accomplish this through three main events over
the academic year.

How the Committee is Organized
Organization structure - committee members will have
specific roles:
	 Volunteer Liaison
	 Participation Liaison
	 Activity Lead (For Wow! and WESP)
	 Logistics (Rooms, Meals, Etc)

We will have weekly meetings on Thursdays, 5-6 PM
	 Strongly recommend regular attendance

Aspire / Advance / Achieve 5 About the Society of Women Engineers What we do: Professional Development Outreach Diversity and Inclusion Mentorship Socials Technical Skills Development The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering. SWE- UCLA is in the Sonora Region B so our mascot is the bee!

That’s Engineering Day We host ~100 Girl Scouts ranging from 3rd through 10th grades (majority are 3rd through 6th) Full day event involving presentations for students and parents, hands on engineering activities for the Girl Scouts, and a UCLA Engineering club fair Objective: spark interest in engineering through hands-on activities

Aspire / Advance / Achieve 9 Panel of female faculty and student leadership discussing women in engineering at UCLA Students have dinner in the dining halls with UCLA students and faculty Students spend the night in the dorms and do activities with their host Objective: show what life as a UCLA Engineering student is like; convince acceptees to attend UCLA HSSEAS Spring: Women in Engineering Stayover Program

From the SWE Mission Statement: To stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity. To inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the general public of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them. Aspire / Advance / Achieve 33 How the Committee is Organized Organization structure - committee members will have specific roles: Volunteer Liaison Participation Liaison Activity Lead (For Wow! and WESP) Logistics (Rooms, Meals, Etc) Secretary and Feedback Coordinator We will have weekly meetings on Thursdays, 5-6 PM Strongly recommend regular attendance Submit applications by Thursday, Oct. 6 All experience levels are encouraged to apply Outreach is a fantastic way to get involved in SWE!
