Climate change poses a major threat to continued poverty reduction efforts. Warmer temperatures negatively impact the income of poor farming families and their food supply, leading to falling incomes for farmers and increased poverty. Climate change is also likely to increase illness and death rates in developing countries. Even with less than a 1°C rise in temperatures, climate shocks cause setbacks to economic and social development today in developing countries.
