This presentation focuses on core things that are provided to participants by researchers and trainers during the time of ERASMUS+ Tourism (CESTour) training session after carrying out huge research based on primary data through focused group interview, literature review, observation and Key Informant Interview. ___________________________________ ERASMUS+ CESTour Research project is European Union funded program to social scientist of Nepal, India, Bhutan, Laos and some nations of Europe like Spain, Austria etc. to find our the major problems and solutions to create sustainability in tourism.

1. Sustainable Cultural Tourism Product
Development, Policies and Tourism Strategy of

2. • Any Nepalese culture that can be offered for attraction and entertainment is cultural tourism products. if the
action carried out in these cultures are legal and friendly, culture can be called sustainable culture.
• Nepal is widely renowned as one of the best and cheap honeymoon tour destination for newly married
couple. – sight seeing, boating, cable cars and paragliding are best tourism product for them.
• Core Cultural Products: Monuments, Cultural Heritage Sites, Smart Cities- Villages, and all the available
tangible products.
• Specific Cultural Products: Taste of Food, Cultural Events, and all kinds of Intangible products ( Differs
according to the specific culture and places).

3. • Convenience Tourism Products: Short life line.
Tourist buy these types of products without
significant planning.
• Nepalese Convenience Tourism Products: Lassie,
Khuwa, Home- made alcoholic drink (Himalaya) etc.
• Nepalese Industrial Products (Tourism Focused):
Herbal medical products that are linked with our
(Nepalese) traditional culture.

4. • Any cultural entity cannot be a part of cultural tourism
product unless it transforms itself into legal product that
could be consumed by tourists.
• Ex: In Terai region of Nepal, He-Buffalo is killed in brutal
way. (culture of some Tharu community.)
• So question is should brutal culture like this be promoted
by tour guide to their costumers?
• Even if we have lots of cultures only handful cultures can
be transformed into cultural products (both in legal as well
as humanitarian perspectives).

5. • Destination of Nepalese tourism is mostly limited to certain areas of nations like: ‘Kathmandu- Pokhera-
Chitwan’. - Threats to cultural products of other culturally diversified places that could be changed
into good destination for cultural tourism.
• How can we come out from these kinds of stereo type tour? - Major Question.
• Holi and Diwali- Foremost threats for most of the tourist. (Bad system of celebrating Holi and Diwali is
strengthening it’s root in our Nepalese culture).
• What cultural products could likely be regarded as cultural threats from the perspective of tourist that
could hamper our sustainability in our cultural tourism?

• SUSTAINABLE CULTURAL TOURISM IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE SURROUNDING
ENVIRONMENT OF THAT TOURISM AREA.

6. • Increase in the noise pollution and other
pollutions has degraded the habitat of local birds
and animals ( Most of the birds and animals
have a significance role in Hindu and Buddhist
cultures) that were found in large number at past.
• Various kinds of culturally significant and
important plants has been decreasing due to soil
erosion and other threats due to fireworks.

7. • Ensures that the acts that are affecting tourism are harmonized with the tourism act – approval from cabinet
(Major question- have we experienced it in sustainable way?)
• Conduct a review of tourism act, 2035 and its related regulations to bring it up-to-date, and harmonies with
other acts that affect the tourism sector (Will be implemented by 2035?)
• Major Question- What do you think will this policy implementation be sustainable? just look at the political
condition of Nepal (recent pashupatinath land issues, hotel construction issues and so on).
• Guarantee that the acts that are affecting tourism are harmonized with the tourism act– approval from
cabinet.

8. • Is Nepalese tourism really benefited from these tourism products if we analyze the present situation
of Nepalese cultural tourism?
• Decrease in the use of tourism products like: Clay Pots, Dhunge Dhara, Buffalo Cart Ride that have
significance role in uplifting the number of tourist who are interested in village and countryside
cultural tourism.
• Incompetent Policies while in Action. No responsible action. ( )
