promote healthy life on the special event of
World Diabetes Day, 14th Nov 2016 this year.
2. • The Walkathon was flagged off by eminent sports
personalities like Sambaran Banerjee, Dibyendu Barua and
Subhash Bhowmick , TV Actor Rajib Bose and Actress
Swagata Basu.
• This year the theme for “World Diabetes Day” feted by
Suraksha Diagnostic Center focused on the prevention and
control of diabetic diseases among people.
• The Walkathon witnessed participation from students, NGOs
and eminent personalities from all over Kolkata. Dr. Somnath
Chatterjee, Director, Suraksha Diagnostic Center was present
to address the media.
3. • Suraksha Walkathon 2016 witnessed participation of over 500
people from JC 21(beside AMRI Hospital) to Bidhannagar
Municipal Corporation via Karunamoyee.
• Dr. P.S Mondal Senior consultant diabetologist from Suraksha
spoke about health hazards posed by excessive consumption
of junk food and too much "screen time" (time spent
watching TV, working on the computer or with I-Pads) by
children.
• Parents were guided to encourage their children to undertake
healthy practices, like taking part in outdoor activities and
sports.
