Discussion/Action School Committee approved a facilities capital budget request for FY11 totaling $243,747
and approved a Five Year Capital Plan covering FY11 - FY15. School Committee received a report from Director
of Student Services Linda Waters regarding special education services and an update describing next steps in
response to recommendations stemming from the independent review of special education services conducted
last year. The committee received a report regarding student use of expanded transportation options to the high
school. The committee reviewed a proposed academic year calendar for 2010-2011 and a proposed revision to
the School Entrance Age policy. Following time for public comment, the committee will reconsider and take formal
action regarding the calendar and the proposed revised policy.
NEW -- Conflict of Interest Law
A recently enacted conflict of interest law is scheduled to go into effect this year.
The law applies to all public employees in Massachusetts. It seeks to “prevent
conflicts between private interests and public duties” by informing and training
public employees about the content of the law. In order to comply with this
mandate, after the Thanksgiving break all Wellesley Public Schools employees
will receive a copy of the Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law. Training will be
scheduled later during the winter.

This 36 hour graduate course focuses on conceptualizing, organizing, planning, conducting, and disseminating
educational research on academic achievement, racial disparity, and issues of privilege, equity and access.
For those who have already taken the first EMI Action Research course there is an Advanced Action Research
Course that will meet on these same dates.
These courses will equip participants with resources and skills that will increase their ability to engage
with students, parents, other educators and administrators around topics related to race and academic
achievement.
