Challenges of implemeting the OSB API (KubeCon US 2017)Nail Islamov
The document discusses some of the challenges in implementing the Open Service Broker API (OSB), including:
- Keeping CREATE and UPDATE request parameters the same to avoid differing schemas
- Avoiding reliance on specific platform details and letting the platform handle orphan mitigation
- Not assuming specific formats for external IDs provided in requests
- The myth of stateless OSB brokers and the need to support operations like rollback and orphan mitigation
The document discusses various options for managing resources on Microsoft Azure, including the Azure Portal, PowerShell, Microsoft Azure Management Libraries (MAML), and Azure Resource Manager (ARM). It provides demonstrations of creating and managing resources using the Portal, PowerShell, MAML, and ARM. Challenges with current management options and the benefits of ARM templates for defining dependencies and orchestrating resource provisioning are also outlined.
1. Section.io expanded their infrastructure from AWS to also include Azure to gain location flexibility and avoid relying solely on one cloud provider.
2. They provisioned Linux virtual machines, load balancers, and DNS routing in Azure, which has advantages like built-in load balancer protocols and scaling capabilities.
3. While Azure has many similarities to AWS, there are also some differences in how services like availability sets, load balancing, and virtual machine configuration work that Section.io had to account for in their implementation.
Making data rain from the clouds version 2Cory Fowler
This document contains information about SQL Azure including its architecture, advantages over traditional SQL Server such as eliminating administration and providing availability and fault tolerance, and demos showing how to prepare, deploy, expose data from SQL Azure databases using ASP.NET and Ruby connections. It also discusses the SQL Azure "Dallas" codename and resources for learning more about SQL Azure.
The amount of environmental data is increasing, and the data would be valuable to the society if they are delivered to the right processes at the right time. In the seminar, we show examples of available data, how they are produced and processed, and how the data can be used in new innovative applications.
This presentation is part of the Environmental Data for Applications Seminar held on the 23rd of September 2015. The seminar was organised by the MMEA (Measurement, Measuring and Environmental Assessment) research programme under the Cleen Ltd (SHOK). The presentations are based on the research results related to environmental data interoperability. The participants included key players and partners in the field of environmental monitoring in Finland.

Azure Resource Manager (ARM) is the modern way to deploy and manage resources in Azure. It allows for templating, declarative orchestration, and treating infrastructure as code. ARM uses resource groups as the unit of management and allows for consistent, incremental deployments through ARM templates, which are JSON files that define the resources and structure of the deployment.
- The document discusses Salesboost's infrastructure architecture using AWS.
- Terraform is used to provision and manage all AWS resources including VPCs, Lambda functions, ECS clusters, and more across multiple environments and regions.
- Most services are delivered using serverless architectures with Lambda and containerized microservices running on ECS/Fargate.
- The infrastructure is designed to maximize use of serverless services for scalability and cost efficiency while meeting performance requirements.

(ISM304) Oracle to Amazon RDS MySQL & Aurora: How Gallup Made the MoveAmazon Web Services
Gallup moved its database from on-premises Oracle to Amazon RDS MySQL and Amazon Aurora on AWS to gain cost savings, scalability, high availability, and integration with other AWS services. The transition required developing workarounds for missing Oracle features in MySQL, rewriting stored procedures, and establishing new processes for deployment and operations on AWS. While Amazon RDS MySQL provided a cost-effective Oracle alternative, Gallup looks forward to better support and integration with AWS services in Amazon Aurora. The cloud migration met Gallup's business needs and positions it for scalable analytics and reporting in the future.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.
