Supercapacitor of High-Performance, Flexible
Recently, Researchers from MIT found an kind of super high
performance flexible capacitor made of nanowire, which could be name
a new generation ideal energy used in fitness tracker and other
wearable devices. Endurance for smart watch and fitness tracker is
specially important, but as we know, those devices don’t request too
high capacity considering its uses. Best method is using small size super
capacitor that could provide quick high power electrical impulses.
Researchers from MIT did experiments with various materials and they
found carbon nano tube and graphene is best due to their larger specific
surface area that larger specific surface area mean it could contain more
ion that is energy.
MIT chose niobium nanowire as electrode for micro supercapacitor. As
researchers said, this supercapacitor get power density of 55W/cc that is
3.5 times of supercapacitor made of cabon nano tube. In addition, this
supercapacitor have advantage of small size. It does’t need any supports
from metals,which would save much space. The raw material of niobium
is abundant materials and its cost is low.
Although, this supercapacitor is just in experiment, but researchers said
they would make it to bulk production.
