Super heat refers to the amount of heat added to a refrigerant vapor after it has evaporated from a liquid. Vapor refrigerant is super heated at constant pressure before entering the compressor. The degree of super heat is calculated as the temperature of the refrigerant out of the evaporator minus the saturation temperature of the refrigerant. Super heating and sub cooling increase both the refrigeration effect and the coefficient of performance (COP) of the refrigeration system.
