90 kmh–1. Its velocity is slowed down to 18 kmh–1 in 4 s, by an unbalanced external
force. Calculate the acceleration and change in momentum. Also calculate the
magnitude of force required. 3

18. A stone is allowed to fall from the top of a tower 100 m high and at the same time
another stone is projected vertically upward from the ground with a velocity of

22. (i) A gas jar containing air is placed upside down on a gas jar of bromine vapour. It
is observed that after some time, the gas jar containing air also becomes
completely reddish brown.
(a) Explain why this happens.
(b) Name the process involved.
(ii) “We can easily move our hand in air but not through any solid material.” Justify
the statement giving any three possible reasons. 5

(i) (a) What is meant by evaporation?
(b) Define latent heat of fusion.
(c) Why should the wet clothes be spread out while drying?
(ii) With the help of a diagram explain in brief an activity to show that particles of

24. From a rifle of mass 4 kg, a bullet of mass 50 g is fired with an initial velocity of
35 ms–1. Calculate the initial velocity of the recoil of rifle. 5

Two objects of masses 100 g and 200 g are moving along the same line and direction
with velocities of 2 ms–1 and 1 ms–1 respectively. They collide and after the collision,
the first object moves with a velocity of 1.67 ms–1. Determine the velocity of second
object.

Is it possible that the train in which you are sitting appears to move while it is at rest? 1 2. At what temperature does solid ice and liquid water co-exist together? 1 3. Which cell organelle controls most of the activities of the cell? 1 4. A naughty boy standing at the top of a steep hillock drops a stone. The stone reaches the ground after 5 s. What is the height of the hill? With what velocity will it strike the ground? (Take g = 9.8 ms–2 ) 2 5. A sample of water boils at 101°C at normal temperature and pressure. Is the given sample of water pure? Will this water freeze at 0°C? 2 6. Why do plant cells possess large sized vacuole? 2 7. Write one function each of the following : (a) Tendon (b) Ligament 2 8. A bullet of mass 20 g is horizontally fired from a pistol of mass 2 kg with a horizontal velocity of 150 m/s. Calculate the recoil velocity of the pistol. 3 16. A motor-car of mass 1200 kg is moving along a straight line with uniform velocity of 90 kmh–1. Its velocity is slowed down to 18 kmh–1 in 4 s, by an unbalanced external force. Calculate the acceleration and change in momentum. Also calculate the magnitude of force required. 3 17. Why is the cell called the structural and functional unit of life? 3 18. A stone is allowed to fall from the top of a tower 100 m high and at the same time another stone is projected vertically upward from the ground with a velocity of 25 ms–1. (i) Derive the equation v2 – u2 = 2as graphically. (ii) A bus travels a distance of 120 km with a speed of 40 km/h and returns with a speed of 30 km/h. Calculate the average speed for the entire journey. 5 OR (i) What can you conclude about the motion of a body depicted by the velocity-time graphs (i), (ii) and (iii) given below :
  • 3. 3 (ii) A bus accelerates uniformly from 54 km/h to 72 km/h in 10 s. Calculate : (a) the acceleration (b) the distance covered by the bus in that time. 22. (i) A gas jar containing air is placed upside down on a gas jar of bromine vapour. It is observed that after some time, the gas jar containing air also becomes completely reddish brown. (a) Explain why this happens. (b) Name the process involved. (ii) “We can easily move our hand in air but not through any solid material.” Justify the statement giving any three possible reasons. 5 OR (i) (a) What is meant by evaporation? (b) Define latent heat of fusion. (c) Why should the wet clothes be spread out while drying? (ii) With the help of a diagram explain in brief an activity to show that particles of matter are very small. 23. (i) State three management practices that are common in dairy and poultry farming.
