CHELSEA BAKER, 13, hear these words a lot. Chelsea
pitches in an all-boys' league in Plant City, Florida. The
young player hasn't lost a single Little League game in four
years. This season alone, she pitched two perfect games.
Chelsea's talent has been noticed. In August, she became the
youngest player to be honored by the National Baseball Hall
of Fame, in Cooperstown, New York. One of her jerseys is
now on display in the Hall. What's her secret to success? " I
just love the game," Chelsea told TFK. Plus, she throws a
mean knuckleball!
Eruption!
More than 30,000people living in Sumatra, Indonesia,
were forced from their homes last week after the
Mount Sinabung volcano erupted.
The 8,000-foot volcano had been dormant for 400
years. "We didn't know anything until it started
rumbling," said Imam Simulingga, a scientist who studies
volcanoes.
Local farmers fear the thick layer of ash left by the blast
could destroy their crops. "There's not going to be a
harvest this year," said farmer Betta Tarigan. Scientists
don't know if the volcano will erupt again.

For her sixthbirthday, Celicia Cassini, now 11, asked for a
sewing machine. Since then, her passion for fashion has
blossomed into a career as a designer. Her creations are sold
online and in two stores in California. "I started making
clothes for my sister and her friends, and word got around,"
she told TFK.
Cecilia's next big plan is to start manufacturing her designs.
Her dream is to have her clothes sold in stores around the
world. For now, she is busy making 25 to 30 dresses each
week.

until you're an adult. You don't have to!"
Swiss workers drilledthrough the last portion
of the world's longest tunnel on October 15.
The Gotthard Base Tunnel is 35.4 miles long. It
edged out Japan's Seikan Tunnel, which is 33.5
miles long, for the world record. The Swiss train
tunnel will connect Zurich, Switzerland, and
Milan, Italy--hubs of Europe's high-speed rail
network--to cut down on truck traffic through
the Alps. The tunnel will protect the area from
pollution. It is expected to be completed in
2017.
Big floods hitthe Land Down Under last week.
Overflowing rivers in northeastern Australia cut
off major highways, destroyed crops and
flooded more than 20 cities and towns in the
state of Queensland. At least 200,000 people
were affected by the floodwaters, which peaked
on January 5.
The flood damage will cost Australia billions of
dollars. "This is a major natural disaster, and
recovery will take a significant amount of time,"
said Australia's Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.

The disaster beganon December 25, when a cyclone hit
Australia's northeast coast. Days of heavy rain caused
rivers to overflow. The flood spread across an area the
size of France and Germany. In the coastal city of
Rockhampton, the river rose to 30 feet. Residents were
warned to stay away from floodwaters. The fast-moving
water was strong enough to sweep cars away. Snakes
and crocodiles were spotted in the water. The
floodwaters could take a month to dry up.
The flood is having an impact around the world.
Queensland exports half the world's coal that is used to
make steel. Most of the state's coalfields are unable to
operate, forcing a rise in coal prices.
