SUKKOT/SUCCOT
Feast of Tabernacles
Yeshua Tabernacles with Us
Notes about this lesson. Lesson Plan which
accompany ppt is found at:
http://www.biblecounselingcenter.com/free-children-bible-lessons.php
• This lesson, Yeshua Tabernacles with Us, covers selected components or aspect(s) of Succoth
and is intended to be used a guide and as a useful tool to teach a class or multiple classes on
Succoth from a Messianic perspective. The main purpose of this lesson is to widen students’
awareness of “tabernacle” or sukkot , particularly, seeing themselves as living tabernacles where
Yeshua dwells and be encouraged to make their lives a beautiful place/sukkah for Yeshua’s
presence. Students will be introduced to a variety of sukkot and encouraged to make their own.
Students are also introduced to the teaching that Sukkot is the most likely time of Yeshua’s birth
and a birthday cake is shared as a practical way of making that association. Instructions are
adapted to teach both younger and older students (lower elementary to middle school, though
young and older adults can also benefit). Multi-faceted material and props such as a tent or
sheet, a string of Christmas lights, paper, whiteboard, overhead projector, videos and other online
resources, can be utilized. Materials and procedure or “how to” suggestions are found at
http://www.biblecounselingcenter.com/free-children-bible-lessons.php) Further studies are
encouraged. Student engagement is a key factor of this and other lessons, therefore discussion
points and activities where students can participate and be involved in learning is planned into
the lesson.
Sukkot, YHWH’s command:
Leviticus 23:33-36;42
“Tell the people of Israel, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is
the feast of Sukkot (Tabernacles)for seven days to YHWH. [On the first
day there is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary
work. For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to
YHWH; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring
an offering made by fire to YHWH; it is a day of public assembly; do not
do any kind of ordinary work.] ’…..You shall dwell in booths for seven
days, all that are Israelite born shall dwell in booths”
• (Younger children memorize Lev. 23:38a,42 -parts in red)
What is SUKKOT?
• Sukkot is a HOLYday where we celebrate being in tents or sukkot
because Yahweh told us (The Hebrews) to live in tents or sukkot for
seven days. So we obey and celebrate this Holyday.
• Another name for sukkah is TABERNACLE or BOOTH or TENT, it a place
where we STAY. It’s a HOME that is PORTABLE and easy to MOVE.
• Sukkot is also called The Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Booths. We
could also call it “Feast of Tents”. On Sukkot we build a little house or
a Sukkah typically with three walls and a door.
• We eat in it, we dance in it, we sing in it – for seven days.
Why do we Celebrate sukkot?
• We celebrate because Yahweh commanded us (the Hebrews) to do so.
• We do this because long ago our ancestors, our fore-parents, had to travel
a long, long way for many, many, years before they could get home. On
their way, they had to camp a lot and so they had to live in tents. Tents are
easy homes to make because we can take them down and put them back
up when we need to.
• While they were traveling in the dessert, God gave them food from heaven
when they were hungry and He gave them water out of a rock when they
needed water to drink.
• So, we live in sukkot, tents, or booths because we are remembering that
time and we also are thankful that Yahweh always provide for us even if we
live in tents/sukkot.

For Younger Children
For Younger Children: Refer back to the other words
for sukkah and Succoth that the Bible uses. Teacher
reads the scriptures. Students whisper “succoth”
when they hear the word ‘tabernacle’ or ‘booth’ or
‘home” or “tent”
For Older Children: Students read scriptures and each
time the words tabernacle, booth, home, or tent, are
seen, they substitute the word, sukkah or succoth (if
plural).
Other words for Sukkah/Sukkot(Succoth):
Tabernacle/s, Booth/s, tents, home/s, dwelling/s
On that day I will raise up 'The tabernacle of
David', which has fallen down...Amos 9:11
1 Chronicles 16:1
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the
midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and
they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings
before God.
Ex. 33:7-11
7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it
outside the camp some distance away,
calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone
inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of
meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever
Moses went out to the tent, all the people
rose and stood at the entrances to their
tents, watching Moses until he entered the
tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the
pillar of cloud would come down and stay at
the entrance, while the LORD spoke with
Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the
pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the
tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at
the entrance to his tent. 11 The LORD would
speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks
with his friend. Then Moses would return to
the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of
Nun did not leave the tent.
Context: Elijah and Moses visit
Yeshua on the Mount where
Yeshua changed into a
brightness. Peter wanted to
stay on the mountain. He
offered to make three sukkot
for them.
Matt. 17:4
Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it
is good for us to be here; if
You wish, I will make three
tabernacles here, one for
You, and one for Moses,
and one for Elijah."

[On the first day there is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work. For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to YHWH; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring an offering made by fire to YHWH; it is a day of public assembly; do not do any kind of ordinary work.] ’…..You shall dwell in booths for seven days, all that are Israelite born shall dwell in booths” • (Younger children memorize Lev. 23:38a,42 -parts in red)
  • 4. What is SUKKOT? • Sukkot is a HOLYday where we celebrate being in tents or sukkot because Yahweh told us (The Hebrews) to live in tents or sukkot for seven days. So we obey and celebrate this Holyday. • Another name for sukkah is TABERNACLE or BOOTH or TENT, it a place where we STAY. It’s a HOME that is PORTABLE and easy to MOVE. • Sukkot is also called The Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Booths. We could also call it “Feast of Tents”. On Sukkot we build a little house or a Sukkah typically with three walls and a door. • We eat in it, we dance in it, we sing in it – for seven days.
  • 5. Why do we Celebrate sukkot? • We celebrate because Yahweh commanded us (the Hebrews) to do so. • We do this because long ago our ancestors, our fore-parents, had to travel a long, long way for many, many, years before they could get home. On their way, they had to camp a lot and so they had to live in tents. Tents are easy homes to make because we can take them down and put them back up when we need to. • While they were traveling in the dessert, God gave them food from heaven when they were hungry and He gave them water out of a rock when they needed water to drink. • So, we live in sukkot, tents, or booths because we are remembering that time and we also are thankful that Yahweh always provide for us even if we live in tents/sukkot.

  • 14. Ex. 33:7-11 7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the LORD spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to his tent. 11 The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
  • 15. Context: Elijah and Moses visit Yeshua on the Mount where Yeshua changed into a brightness. Peter wanted to stay on the mountain. He offered to make three sukkot for them.
