  commands of God
 Here are 10 Stupid Things We Do
   This   morning – We Worship the Wrong God
   2nd   – We Worship the Right God in the Wrong Way

What does the 1st Commandment
               Affirm?
 Most  of the commandments are negative.
 Only the 4th and 5th do not contain the word “not”.
 All can be expressed negatively or positively.
 This command affirms three things:
   No other gods ahead of Jehovah
   No other gods beneath to Jehovah
   No other gods in additon to Jehovah

            Affirm?
  This command is a clear command for

             Monotheism

          Believe in one God

               Forbid?
                       ATHEISM

 Less than 1% of America is atheistic
 The atheist says, “I know that there is no God.”
 Psalm 14:1 – The fool has said in his heart,
  “There is no God.”

               Forbid?
                 AGNOSTICISM
 The  agnostic claims that there is not enough
  information to believe in God.
 Is there enough evidence to believe in God?
 John 20:31 - but these are written that you may
  believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
  and that believing you may have life in His name.

                Forbid?
                       DEISM
 Deism  is the belief that God is creator.
 But has no interest in the affairs of this world.
 God is seen as a “master clock winder”.
 Does God care, intervene, step into our world?
   Does God answer prayer?
   Does God work in providential ways?

               Forbid?
                    HENOTHEISM
 Many   believe in a national God.
   Is God an American?
   Is God our race, tribe, nationality?
 Many   view God as white, Anglo-Saxon, capitalist,
  of _________ political party.
 Does God support our causes, sports team,
  political views?

               Forbid?
                    POLYTHEISM
 Belief in many gods.
 This is the “pagan” view of God.
 The Romans and Greeks had 1,000’s of gods.
   Families of gods over special areas of life.
   Deeper in the family the specialty was specific.

A   god over living things
  His   son was over insects
       His   son was over flies
          His  son was over flies in the house
                His son was over flies in the kitchen of the house.

Acts 17:23 - for as I was passing through and
 considering the objects of your worship, I even
 found an altar with this inscription:
           TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without
 knowing, Him I proclaim to you:

                  ECUMENISM
 This  one may surprise you.
 Many believe that God of Christianity –
 Is also the God of:
   Buddha
   Confucius
   Hindu
   Islam

 They   also believe that God accepts all teachings:
   Mormons
   Jehovah’s  Witnesses
   7th Day Adventists
   Armstrongism (Herbert W. Armstrong)

How does this commandment
            apply today?
 God  demands undivided loyalty.
 We don’t have totem poles, icons, or statues in this
  building.
 But many have a divided loyalty – job, health,
  sport, family, money.
 Some will stay home from worship of God tonight
  to watch a football game.

Conclusion:
 God    has rules.
 Rule # 1 – God requires undivided loyalty.
 Our worship MUST focus on God.
 Our lives MUST focus on God.
