The document discusses Jesus' message to the church of Laodicea. It describes how Christ represents the spiritual condition of many who claim to follow God as nauseating due to lukewarm faith. Believers are counseled to buy gold refined by fire (faith), white garments (righteousness), and eye salve (spiritual discernment) by renouncing self-sufficiency and fully accepting Christ. Only then can we be opened up, broken like flowers in the rain, and reach beyond spiritual pain.
This passage from Revelation 3:14-22 describes a message from Jesus to the church in Laodicea. It portrays the church as wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. Jesus counsels them to buy gold refined by fire (faith), white garments (righteousness), and eye salve (spiritual discernment). We must renounce self-sufficiency and accept Jesus into our lives in order to receive these gifts freely, through dying to self and being raised with Christ.
This document discusses building a strong home by avoiding termites that can destroy it from within. It identifies four termites: 1) confusion of roles from secular influences, 2) being too busy and not making time for relationships, 3) insensitivity in marriage, and 4) stubbornness and lack of mutual submission. It encourages admitting if termites have invaded your home, discussing how to control and eliminate them, starting today, and pledging loyalty and trust to God and each other.
Judaism is a monotheistic religion originating from the stories of Abraham and Moses in the Old Testament. Some key beliefs include following the 613 Mitzvot or commandments, observing the Sabbath on Saturday, and keeping kosher dietary laws. Important symbols of Judaism include the Star of David and menorah. Major holidays include Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover, Shavuot, and Chanukkah.
Exploring Pauls Letter To The Eph Ch5 And Ch6Paul Goodhall
This document provides a summary of chapters 5 and 6 of Paul's letter to the Ephesians. It discusses how Christians should walk as children of light, redeeming the time and avoiding works of darkness. It also covers instructions for husbands and wives, children and parents, employees and employers. Finally, it discusses putting on the whole armor of God to stand against spiritual wickedness.
Medieval Christians believed they had to have more good deeds than bad deeds to get into heaven, which they called a "state of grace." People could earn grace through good behavior and pilgrimages to holy sites called shrines. Shrines were important because people believed praying there could forgive sins and improve their chances of reaching heaven. Relics, items supposedly belonging to saints, were important because the most common relics at shrines were pieces of the cross Jesus was crucified on. Priests would tell scary stories from the Bible and other sources to encourage people to earn grace and stick in peoples' minds.
The Lindisfarne Gospels were created in the late 7th or early 8th century at Lindisfarne Priory in honor of God and St. Cuthbert. Bishop Eadfrith wrote the Latin text and decorated the manuscript with ornate illustrations and designs. Later, Aldred added interlinear Anglo-Saxon translations. The manuscript is now housed at the British Library and is one of the most famous relics of Hiberno-Saxon art.

The document discusses Paul's statement in Philippians 1:21-23 about his desire to "depart and be with Christ." It examines whether Paul means he will bypass hades, resurrection and judgment day. After further analysis of the Greek tense and context, the document concludes that Paul is saying at the point of death he will be in Jesus' care and watch, not physically with him, but under his spiritual protection. It encourages that both living and dying mean serving Christ, and when we die we will be in the hands of the Lord.
The document discusses how we should not treat God's name carelessly. It explains that God has many names that describe him, like Jehovah-Rohi meaning shepherd. The third commandment is to not misuse God's name. Some ways people misuse it include using bad language that includes God's name, failing to keep promises, and being hypocritical in worship but not in daily life. We should properly use God's name in worship, prayer, praise, and legal oaths. The penalty for misusing God's name is that one will not be guiltless and will face punishment.
Salvation is one thing. True and complete conversion is another matter. Peter was a follower, a disciple, an apostle. But he was yet to be fully converted to Christ.
This document summarizes abortion statistics in the United States over the past 40 years since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalized abortion nationally. It reports that over 55 million abortions have occurred, averaging around 1.21 million abortions per year or 3,765 abortions per day. Specific statistics are provided on the rates of abortion for women of different ages, with approximately 1 in 4 women having an abortion by age 30 and 1 in 3 women by age 45. The document concludes by advocating for valuing all human life.
This document discusses gifts that can be given throughout the year, not just on holidays. It encourages giving gifts of kindness, praise, understanding, presence, prayer, forgiveness, love and gratitude. The greatest gift is God's gift of his son. People are encouraged to live a life of giving as God did through Jesus.
This document summarizes Exodus 14:11-16. The Israelites complain to Moses about leaving Egypt, saying they should have remained slaves. Moses tells the people to stop complaining and being afraid, and to see how God will deliver them by parting the Red Sea. God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites to go forward through the sea, which God will divide, and God will defeat the Egyptians who pursue them.
The document discusses how Jesus Christ is referred to by seven different titles that each represent an aspect of his identity. It explains that Jesus is the Son of David representing his royalty, the Son of Abraham representing his bloodline, the Son of Adam representing his humanity, the Son of Joseph representing his legal status, the Son of Mary representing his family, the Son of Man representing his humanity, and the Son of God representing his divinity.
This document discusses how certain words related to Christianity have been "damaged" or had their meanings changed by the world. It provides examples of words like "gay," "drink," "worship," "Christian," "church," and "baptism" that originally referred to biblical concepts but now are often used differently. The document urges Christians to refuse corrupted meanings and use language as it is intended in Scripture.
This document provides advice for building a strong home and marriage. It discusses using quality materials rather than cheap imitations that will fail. Wives are encouraged to show gentle submission through their conduct rather than manipulation. They should focus on inner beauty of character rather than outward appearances. Learning should be put into practice at home rather than neglecting family. The home should be the primary focus rather than other activities. Both husbands and wives have a role in building a home that will endure.
The document outlines that there are two distinct churches of Christ that have emerged. One seeks to faithfully follow the teachings of the New Testament and preach salvation. The other seeks to change doctrine and practices, ignore the Bible, and follow secular trends. A key dividing issue was the introduction of instrumental music in 1906. The document contrasts the differing views between the two churches on issues like the role of women, baptism, and relations with other denominations.
This document discusses the importance of defending the Christian faith. It provides several biblical passages that instruct believers to preach the word of God, contend for the faith, and defend the gospel. While some will never accept the truth, others only preach parts of it. Therefore, it is important for elders to watch over the flock and ensure the whole counsel of God is being taught. Preachers must preach all of Scripture, teachers must focus on doctrine, and members should have a love for the truth.
This document discusses honoring your parents and outlines why it is important. It begins by noting that failing to honor parents has always been a problem throughout history. It then examines the biblical commandment to honor your father and mother, explaining that it means showing respect to both dependent and independent parents. Several reasons and motivations for obeying this commandment are provided, including that it is right, will benefit your life, and society. The document addresses questions about honoring parents who are imperfect or deceased, and provides practical suggestions for honoring one's parents. It concludes by reiterating that failing to honor parents has always been considered "stupid" and is something we must do to benefit our lives.
The document discusses three professions that Christians should emulate:
SOLDIER - Christians must endure hardship, be strong in their faith, face adversity without getting tangled in worldly affairs.
ATHLETE - They must play by God's rules, train and work hard in their faith, competing and striving for their spiritual goals.
FARMER - Christians are called to work diligently for their faith, plant spiritual seeds, weed out distractions, and be patient, trusting that their harvest will come.
This document discusses the many blessings that Christians have through Christ. It lists blessings like forgiveness of sins, being part of God's family (the church), having God as our Father, and finding joy and happiness. It encourages counting our blessings and discusses four blessings in particular: forgiveness through confession, being part of God's family in the church, having God as our Father who protects and disciplines us, and finding joy through keeping God's commandments. The conclusion urges that all these blessings are found through being in Christ.
The passage discusses having the mind of Christ. It notes that having the mind of Christ means understanding God's plan, seeking God's glory, preaching salvation, and sharing Christ's compassion for the lost. It contrasts the mind of Christ with human wisdom, and says the mind of Christ involves hidden truths now revealed through the Spirit. It states that only believers who have the Spirit of God can understand the mind of Christ, while those without the Spirit find it foolishness. Having the mind of Christ gives believers discernment in spiritual matters.
This document discusses how common words in the Bible take on special meanings. It provides examples of words like fellowship, deacon, elder, confession, and baptism that were ordinary words but took on theological or ecclesiastical significance in scripture. Koine Greek is also discussed as the common language during the time of Jesus that the New Testament was written in. Care must be taken not to lose sight of the special meanings God assigned to these words when reading and studying the Bible.
Under severe persecution, it was necessary for the church to go underground. God promised the church would remain forever. While the church did not cease, it did go into the wilderness.
The document discusses Ephesians 2:8-10 and how the Ephesian Christians obtained their salvation. It summarizes that the Ephesians (1) heard the word of God, (2) believed what they heard, (3) repented of their sins, (4) confessed their faith, and (5) were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. The conclusion is that the Ephesians were saved by God's grace through obeying the gospel and good works that God prepared for them.

The document discusses the Nicolaitans, a heretical group that Jesus rebuked in Revelation. It says they were connected to Balaam, who led Israel into idolatry and sexual immorality, and to Jezebel, who taught sexual immorality and idolatry. Like the Epicureans, the Nicolaitans encouraged unrestrained indulgence and ignoring God's will. The document suggests similar teachings exist today in forms of false religions, pornography, and the view that anything goes morally. Jesus hated the Nicolaitans for opposing God through false teachings promoting immorality.
The document discusses the history and lessons of Babylon through three iterations:
1. Babylon started as the Tower of Babel under Nimrod but was stopped by God confusing languages.
2. The ancient city of Babylon rose to power under kings like Nebuchadnezzar and influenced Israelite exile.
3. Revelation prophesies a final "Babylon" representing immorality, false religion, and persecution that will ultimately be destroyed by God.
This document discusses the concept of wanting just $3 worth of God - enough to feel comforted but not enough to truly transform one's life or require obedience to God's will. It notes that while we want salvation, we don't want submission to God as our Lord. The document encourages seeking God's will through studying the Bible directly, having an open mind to obey what is taught, and being willing to serve God rather than just wanting comfort or benefits from Him.
There is confusion around the use of numbers in Revelation. In early alphabets and cultures, letters were also used as numbers, such as A=1, B=2, etc. Words could be assigned numerical values by adding up the individual letter values. Some numbers came to symbolize concepts - for example, 7 represents perfection. While numerology should not be overemphasized, some numbers like 40 and 7 appear frequently in the Bible and may have significance in Revelation.
The document discusses why we work from both a biblical and practical perspective. It begins by citing Genesis 3:17-18, where God curses the ground and tells Adam he must work by the sweat of his brow to eat. It then discusses some wrong reasons for working, such as to acquire things, impress others, or feel useless. The right reasons given are that work is part of God's plan, allows us to help those in need, and shows we trust in God rather than working to earn salvation or heaven. The overall message is that we should work diligently not for selfish gain but to fulfill God's purpose and help others.
Unproductive Worry discusses how worry is unnecessary, unreasonable, unfaithful, and unwise. Studies show that most worries are over things that will never happen or are out of our control. Jesus teaches that worry cannot change anything and we should instead trust that God cares for us and will provide what we need. The document concludes that there is no need to worry whether a problem has a solution or not, and we should focus on God's promises instead of wasting time worrying.
The document outlines four steps for a church in Ephesus to get back on track spiritually after leaving their "first love": 1) Remember what it was like when they first became Christians, 2) Repent for drifting away from their faith, 3) Restore their spiritual works and fellowship to how it was originally, or 4) face being removed from their place if they do not repent. The four steps - remember, repent, restore, or be removed - provide a path for the church to regain their lost passion and closeness with God.
This document discusses Jesus' teachings about putting spiritual matters before physical or worldly concerns. It examines several biblical passages where Jesus instructs people to address spiritual or inner issues first before outward or physical issues. For example, Jesus tells the Pharisees to first clean the inside of cups and dishes rather than just the outside. The document emphasizes that Christians must be clean on the inside through their character and beliefs rather than just appearing righteous outwardly. It encourages putting things like worship, prayer, and one's relationship with God as the highest priority.
This document discusses how Jesus wrote letters to 7 churches in Asia Minor that are recorded in Revelation 2-3. It then examines the common structure of these letters, including greetings, descriptions of Jesus, insights into the churches, criticisms, warnings, promises, and other elements. The document suggests that if Jesus wrote a letter to Cades church today, it would likely contain criticisms and warnings as well as promises if the church repents. It raises the question of how the church would respond and what changes it would make upon receiving such a letter from Jesus.
The document discusses two passages of scripture from Isaiah 42:10-12 and Revelation 5:8-10. It summarizes that Revelation describes a new song sung by the four living creatures and 24 elders praising the Lamb for redeeming mankind through his blood. The new song honors God for the price, means, and destination of redemption, having redeemed people from every nation to reign as kings and priests.
This document discusses the origin, intent, extent, demands, hope, price, and response of God's grace according to scripture passages. God is the source of grace which brings salvation for all people. Grace teaches believers to reject sinful desires and live righteously as they await Christ's return. Grace cost God dearly through the sacrifice of Jesus to redeem believers and make them devoted to good works.
The document discusses the biblical definition of a saint and clarifies some common misuses of the term. A saint is simply a holy one, referring to anyone who is dedicated and consecrated to God. In the Bible, saints include all believers, members of local churches, and those who worship God. To become a saint, one must repent of sins, be saved from sin through faith in Christ, and dedicate their life to following God. A saint is not a super Christian or someone who performed miracles - it is any believer who commits their life to God.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

3. 1 Peter 3:1-3
1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own
husbands, that even if some do not obey the
word, they, without a word, may be won by the
conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe
your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do
not let your adornment be merely outward--
arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on
fine apparel--
4. 1 Peter 3:4-6
4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and
quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of
God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the
holy women who trusted in God also adorned
themselves, being submissive to their own
husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
him lord, whose daughters you are if you do
good and are not afraid with any terror.
5. Introduction
Girl hears story of Snow White
Mother says, “They lived happily every after.”
Girl says, “No. They got married.”
1 Peter 3 is addressed those who married the
“wrong kind of husband.”
In building a home – wives must bring some of
the bricks.
6. 1] BEHAVIOR – VS. 2
“when they observe your chaste conduct
accompanied by fear.”
Conversation (KJV) = conduct, life style,
manner of living
Behold (KJV) = observe, look closely
Watch with intent
Pay attention to every detail
Like a man does watching the replay of a
football game on TV
7. 2] APPEARANCE – VS. 3
Do not let your adornment be merely outward--
arranging the hair, wearing gold,
or putting on fine apparel--
It is not wrong to look nice, neat appearance
But – Peter says:
Keep it in balance
Spend time and money on appearance
Spend some time on the inside, also
8. 2] APPEARANCE – VS. 3
Do not let your adornment be merely outward--
arranging the hair, wearing gold,
or putting on fine apparel--
Some people look like an unmade bed
Some smell like they were dipped in Lysol
“Any barn looks better with a coat of paint.”
9. 3] ATTITUDE – VS. 4
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle
and quiet spirit, which is very precious
in the sight of God.
Hidden person of the heart
Not corrupt
Meek - gentle
Quiet – tranquil, not boisterous
10. 3] ATTITUDE – VS. 4
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle
and quiet spirit, which is very precious
in the sight of God.
Very precious
Proverbs 31:25a Strength and honor are her
clothing
These are the values men are looking for
11. 4] RESPONSE – VS. 5
For in this manner, in former times, the holy
women who trusted in God also
adorned themselves, being submissive
to their own husbands,
Obeyed – Submissive
Pay attention to, listen, heed, be attentive
Disobey = don't pay attention
This does not make the man – drill sergeant
This does not make the woman - slave
12. 4] RESPONSE – VS. 5
For in this manner, in former times, the holy
women who trusted in God also
adorned themselves, being submissive
to their own husbands,
