The document summarizes market research conducted on travel preferences of students. A survey was administered and cluster analysis was performed to identify 3 key segments: 1) Leisure tourists who prioritize location, safety, and value; 2) Quick benefit tourists who prefer short, spontaneous trips with local culture and connectivity; 3) Wanderers who are driven by wanderlust and adventure regardless of amenities. Developing packages targeted at quick benefit tourists is recommended as they care most about experience over cost. Further research developing customized packages for each segment could help the potential startup optimize their offerings.

Notes from Educator Pre-training Briefing 1 - Summary of AfG-toolset 2012-13CDI Apps for Good
This document provides an overview of the toolset that will be used for the Apps for Good program in the 2012/13 academic year. It summarizes App Inventor, a visual programming tool for building Android apps, Balsamiq Mockups for prototyping apps, and the alternative of PhoneGap. It explains why App Inventor and Balsamiq will be used, how to install them, and get involved in their online communities. Educators are assigned the task of completing an App Inventor tutorial by May 31st to prepare for upcoming training sessions on using these tools.
New students and staff at Wildern school were having difficulty navigating the large campus. To address this, a group of students created MappYourWay, an app that uses QR codes and a student's location to show them the route to their next classroom. They created mockups of the app and conducted surveys that found many students felt lost or scared on campus. Their research identified similar campus mapping apps at other schools. Going forward, they hope to incorporate additional features like NFC, timetables, and expand the app for use at other large institutions.
Apps for Good: Half day taster workshop (non-technical)CDI Apps for Good
This half day non-technical workshop is designed to give attendees a taste of what the Apps for Good course provides. We recommend anyone looking to deliver Apps for Good in their school or college use our taste workshops to explore interest in the programme.
An app is defined as a set of event handlers that can ask questions, branch, repeat tasks, and communicate with web services and databases. It is important to clearly define what an app is so students understand how apps work and the types of problems they can solve. An app's event handlers allow it to respond to user interactions by performing conditional logic and loops. This allows apps to solve complex problems in a structured way.
The document outlines the UK's tech education ecosystem, which takes a problem-driven approach called "STEAMED" and includes various programs, academies, and organizations that teach skills like coding, programming, computing, and entrepreneurship. These are categorized by the type of education they provide - whether integrated into the formal curriculum, as after-school programs, or beyond formal schooling - and the ages they target from primary school through post-secondary education and beyond.
The school's Apps for Good program has been selected as a finalist for Google's Global Impact Challenge 2013 and encourages the school community to vote for Apps for Good by May 31st and share the voting link on social media. Apps for Good is a technology education initiative that teaches students ages 11 to 18 to develop digital skills and create apps, with the goal of empowering 20,000 UK students by September 2013 to make a positive impact through technology.

The graphic maps the progression of opportunities available at different education levels.
Apps for Good is a program that teaches students to design mobile apps to solve real-world problems. It aims to improve students' entrepreneurial and technical skills, increase their confidence, and help them learn about potential careers. Educators are also trained to facilitate app design sessions. In 2011/12, over 1,200 students participated in the program across the UK. Surveys found that the program significantly improved students' skills and confidence. It also helped educators learn new skills and teaching methods. The program connects students with industry professionals who mentor and advise them.
St. Matthew Academy students designed an app called "Promise Keeper" to help parents remember promises made to their children in order to improve motivation, behavior, and school grades. Research found a similar Chinese app with over 100,000 downloads, but no equivalent English app existed. The students presented their app design and were featured by the BBC and in a Skype call with motivational speaker Bob Shukai, hoping the app would ensure promises are never forgotten.
1) The application solves the problem of people forgetting their oyster cards by allowing them to use their phones as oyster cards instead through NFC technology.
2) It addresses a large market of roughly 4 million people in London who use oyster cards and sometimes forget them, causing issues like missing transportation.
3) The app proposes using phones to check balances, purchase travel cards, and open barriers at stations by tapping the phone instead of an oyster card, providing a mobile-based solution to the forgetting problem.
Well - Being Winner AFGA 2012 - Feelings in a FlashCDI Apps for Good
The document describes a proposed mobile app called "Feelings In A Flash" designed to help teenagers understand and manage their emotions. The app would allow users to track their changing feelings over time, share feelings with friends privately, and access helpful information from curated websites. Market research found strong interest among teenagers to use such an app. The creators seek design advice and help linking to quality resources to develop an easy-to-use, viral app supporting teen well-being.
Gardeners struggle to properly nourish their plants according to weather and seasons. Weather irds aims to help by providing information on watering, soil types, and nutrient levels tailored to specific plants and weather conditions. The app would track garden growth and provide advice through a combination of information, Q&A, and visual guides. Market research found 90% of gardeners do not know plant nutrient needs by weather, with most growing flowers, herbs and vegetables for 1-4 hours per week. The solution is an app to help gardeners nourish plants based on weather and seasons.

The document discusses a mobile app called TRANSIT that aims to improve parent-teacher communication during meetings when there is a language barrier. The app allows both parents and teachers to select common statements and questions in their own language that are then voiced to the other party in their language. It seeks to address the problems that arise during such meetings when one side cannot understand the other and parents feel disempowered due to lack of communication. Mock-ups of the app design are presented as the proposed solution.
Apps for Good is an educational program that teaches students problem-solving skills through designing mobile app prototypes in 50-70 hours. The program takes students through the design thinking process from defining problems to designing and testing solutions. Partnerships with content providers, affiliates, and certified partners allow the program to provide expertise, resources, and real-world testing for the students' app ideas.

Central Foundation Girls School wanted to open their Apps for Good course to students of all abilities, not just the best ICT students. One student, Shahina, was talkative but not always making positive choices. She reluctantly joined the course interview and realized she could do meaningful work and people would listen to her. She became fully engaged in the project and formed mentoring relationships with older students. Since the course, Shahina has strengthened her leadership skills and organized a fundraising initiative, showing the biggest transformation of all students in the program. The course benefited all students by increasing cooperation and leadership skills.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
