Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

9. It's a basic truth - when you feel well physically and mentally, you
function well. Unfortunately, things don't always go as smoothly
as you would like. Little things (and sometimes big ones) can get
in the way of taking care of yourself and doing well. This makes it
difficult to do and feel your best.
Student Health and Counseling Services provides medical
treatment, psychological counseling, and outpatient services as
well as a variety of educational programs for all Saint Louis
University full-time, part-time, and graduate students. All services
are confidential, and the Counseling Center offers both Group
and Individual Counseling. Both facilities are located in

Information Technology Services division, created to meet student technical needs. The

16. • The Billiken Bridge to Success Program (BBS) is an intensive, three-week academic
experience for students conditionally admitted to Saint Louis University. It is a
highly selective opportunity offered to less than 15% of prospective
applicants. Approximately 30 freshman attend BBS each year. As a summer bridge
program, it accelerates students' transition into SLU. Through courses, service and
community building, students hone academic skills, develop self-awareness and
learn teamwork and other skills critical for success. Aslo, BBS functions as the first
module of intentional programming that continues through the first year.
• The federal TRiO programs are educational opportunity programs that motivate
and serve low-income, first-generation college students and students with
disabilities as they progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to
graduate school. TRiO also trains directors and staff of TRiO projects and runs a
dissemination partnership program to encourage the replication or adaptation of
successful TRiO projects at institutions that do not have TRiO grants.

18. • Learning Communities are intentional, inSLUsive communities
formed around common themes where students live and
learn together.
• First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) are groups of 1-4 courses that
students within Learning Communities can take together during
their fall semester. On average, 20-22 first-year students are
assigned to a FIG within the same Learning Community.
• Learning Communities (LCs) are a residential experience that
provides students an opportunity to live together centered on one
common interest on one or more floors. Each LC has anywhere
from one to four FIGs within the community. The FIG is an
additional opportunity to the LC experience for students within the
LC to take some of their fall classes together.
19. Fraternities and sororities have been a part of campus life at
Saint Louis University since the early 1900's. Membership has
grown steadily and today over 1,300 men and women (15% of
the undergraduate population) belong to 15 different chapters.
Greek-affiliated students can choose to live in DeMattias Hall,
which houses SLU’s 18 fraternities and sororities and has chapter
rooms in the basement. More than just social groups, fraternities
and sororities are values-based organizations that seek to

Hazing: Saint Louis University has a strict anti-hazing
policy, as do each of the fraternities and sororities
affiliated with the university.
Disaffiliation: Student leaders are required to
disaffiliate during Fall Welcome. Dis-affiliation is
important to promote going Greek as a whole and
not to promote any specific chapter over another.
20. The newly renovated Bauman-Eberhart Center, or West Pine Gym,
in addition to Des Peres Hall make up the Center for Global
Citizenship. Inside the newly renovated building is an open
auditorium, with meeting spaces and a café where students can
buy coffee and light refreshments while socializing or study.
Bauman-Eberhart is the home of the Cross Cultural Center, Center
for Services and Community Engagement, and student
organization offices. Des Peres Hall houses the offices for
International Services, Study Abroad, and the English as a Second
Language (ESL) Program, and both buildings display the flags of all
the countries that SLU students call home on their rooftops.
A “SLU” of fun facts: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke in
the West Pine Gym in 1964 with a speech entitled His
speech, entitled "The Future of Integration―, and was
the first lecture in SLU's Great Issues series. Dr. King
also gave a press conference in the Knights Room of
Pius library. West Pine Gym was last used for a
Women’s basketball game in 2004.
21. The Saint Louis University Center for Service and Community
Engagement creates a coordinated interface between the University and
the urban communities that surround it, seeking ultimately to prepare
participants to be effective servant leaders and agents for social change,
as well as to foster the creation of a just and equitable society by
supporting efforts of students, faculty, and staff in the areas of community
service, service learning, academic research, and community partnerships.
The Center for Service and Community Engagement serves the entire SLU
campus as a clearinghouse and consultants for:
• Service (one-time or continuous) opportunities for students, faculty, staff
and alumni.
• Academic learning and community engagement.
• Research to identify strategies that will enhance a just and equitable
society.
Make a Difference Day is a SLU tradition and the largest day of service of
the year! Last year over 3,300 students, faculty, and staff volunteered at
136 sites across the St. Louis area. This year, MADD will be on Saturday,
October 26, so save the date!

pools, basketball and racquetball courts, a rock climbing
wall, juice bar, and more, the Simon Rec Center (SRC) has
something for everyone’s fitness needs. Simon Rec also
facilitates over 35 club sports and several intramural

range of fitness classes, as well as personal training.
