I have been granted the opportunity to work with Georgia State University Advisement Center (UAC) as a Student Assistant (SA). This office
greatly serves the GSU community because all advisers for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are located here. The purpose of the advising
center is to provide students with academic assistance to ensure that they make the right decisions in selecting a major and determining a plan
towards graduation. The advisers help students create class schedules, complete forms, and much more. As an employee, I had responsibilities of
making appointments for advisers, answering phone calls, checking students in as walk–ins or appointments, and directing students to their
assigned adviser.
While looking at the big picture, I concluded that I played a major role in helping the organization meet its purpose by serving people promptly
and effectively. Without me, the office would've been shorter on SAs, resulting in a longer wait–time for phone and personalized assistance. I

One issue that I have noticed as a student is the understaffing of departments at GSU. Financial aid, housing, and university advisement offices are
the most visited offices on campus. I addressed the issue by publicly acknowledging that there is a problem with the wait–time for answering
phone calls that results from not having enough people to get to each call promptly. I can work to fix this issue by logically and skillfully
recommending quality students to a Student Assistant position before training them. I could engage GSU's local political leaders such as the
Dean of Students and other influential people as reinforcement to guarantee quicker assistance from all
