This document outlines the St George's Student Ambassador scheme. It introduces the Student Ambassador Coordinator and Widening Participation Officer. It explains that ambassadors represent the university and work with young people. The plan is to discuss what ambassadors do, how the program works, and working with young people. 5. So what are Student Ambassadors? A team of current students chosen to represent the University– nearly 200 of you! They are employed by the Widening Participation Unit but also work for Student Recruitment and other departments within the university. They all have basic training and many of them become experts for particular projects.

6. What is widening participation? “Widening Participation is about encouraging and supporting those people from groups currently under represented in Higher Education, who have the potential to make a positive contribution to the life of St. George's, and the NHS workforce.”

7. Which means? There are lots of people out there who could be great students and great healthcare professionals who don’t apply to university. There are lots of reasons for this including: They don’t know about it or don’t know how to get there They come from underachieving schools or neighbourhoods They don’t receive the right support They think that they won’t fit in They lack confidence They don’t have the right information Widening Participation activities help to spread the word about University and Healthcare careers to give these people the confidence, the skills and the right information to help them to achieve their potential.
