The document discusses the results of a market research study conducted by Stryker India to understand customer buying behavior and preferences for operating room tables and lights. Key findings include:
- Major brands in the Indian market are Berchtold, Maquet, Stryker and others. Maquet and Stryker were most commonly preferred by surgeons.
- Important features for tables included height adjustment, leveling adjustment, and patient positioning ability. Important lights features were light field size, homogeneous light distribution and being shadow-free.
- Anesthetists particularly valued leveling adjustment, height adjustment and mobile tables. Cardiac surgeons valued homogeneous lighting and color selection. Neurosurgeons valued leveling adjustment and crash prevention
The major driving factor for these markets would be the increasing demand for minimally invasive percutaneous endovascular treatment. As the incidence cases of coronary and peripheral artery diseases continue to rise in the coming years along with increasing trends in co-morbid conditions such as obesity and diabetes, the vascular interventional devices market for treating these diseases would show significant growth in the forecast period. The principal advantage of minimally invasive endovascular procedures over surgery is short recovery time, short length scars, low risk of infection, bleeding, and shorter hospital stays.

Medical application of ultrasound began post World War II in the 1940s, with the first diagnostic application being in cardiology and brain tumor identification. Today ultrasound has medical applications in every area of the body and gives accurate results regarding overall structural composition, based on the density and transmission of the sound waves through biological tissue. Along with the conventional black and white ultrasound imaging systems, the global market also has high potential for color Doppler and 3D/4D imaging systems. The imaging clarity and diagnostic abilities offered by recent ultrasound devices is predicted to give a thrust to the overall global diagnostic market; this will also support other imaging technologies such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography, and PET/SPECT.
Invasive coronary physiology to select patients for coronary revascularisation has become established in contemporary guidelines for the management of stable coronary artery disease. Compared to revascularisation based on angiography alone, the use of coronary physiology has been shown to improve clinical outcomes and cost efficiency. However, recent data from randomised controlled trials have cast doubt upon
the value of ischaemia testing to select patients for revascularisation. Importantly, 20-40% of patients have
persistence or recurrence of angina after angiographically successful percutaneous coronary intervention
(PCI). This state-of-the-art review is focused on the transitioning role of invasive coronary physiology from
its use as a dichotomous test for ischaemia with fixed cut-points, towards its utility for real-time guidance of PCI to optimise physiological results. We summarise the contemporary evidence base for ischaemia testing
in stable coronary artery disease, examine emerging indices which allow advanced physiological guidance
of PCI, and discuss the rationale and evidence base for post-PCI physiological assessments to assess the success of revascularisation.

Minimally invasive medical robotics, imaging & visualization systems & surgic...Ron Ethell
The MIS market is expected to grow at a fast rate with a CAGR of 8.2% and is expected to reach $35.5 billion by 2016. The surgical instruments segment commanded the larger share; i.e. 38.4%, of the global minimally invasive surgical devices market in 2011. This growth has been primarily attributed to the increased usage of these devices and instruments in MIS procedures. Devices such as guiding catheters and guidewires as well as balloons have been widely used in interventional angioplasty and peripheral extremity MIS procedures. Numerous innovations in the technologies of devices such as balloons have added to the growth in the market.
