so cool! You know, I’m an animal
lover. In fact, I have so many pets.
SCENE: Kalye’s Angels named Lola Nidora, Lola Ti-
dora, and Lola Tinidora decided to bond together. They
went to Animal World, a nearby zoo. With Alden and
Yaya Dub, they saw different animals there.
GUIDE CARD
Oh Tidora and Tinidora! Finally,
we’re here! It’s so nice to take a
break after our busy schedules.
Me too! I have cows, carabaos
and goats!
Tinidora, those are what we call
herbivores.
What are herbivores Nidora?

5. Don’t you know that animals
may be classified according to
the type of food they eat? Since
Tinidora’s pets include cows,
carabaos and goats, these ani-
mals eat plants, grass in particu-
lar. By then they are herbivores.
You’re so smart Nidora! Tell us
more about animals.
Animals can be classified as herbi-
vores, carnivores and omnivores.
Like what I have said, animals that
eat only plants are herbivores while
animals that eat meat or other ani-
mals are called carnivores.
Oh really? So, animals may be her-
bivores and carnivores.
That’s not all. They may also be clas-
sified as omnivores. These animals
eat both plants and animals.

6. How about the omnivores?
Would you give us more exam-
ples Nidora?
Sheep, horses, rabbits and snails are
well known examples of herbivores
which eat grass and leaves. A par-
rot, however, which eats fruits and
nuts can also be called a herbivore.
What about carnivores?
Carnivores eat meat. A carnivore is a
predator because it has to find and
catch its prey. Some carnivores, such
as wolves, hunt in a group called a
pack. They move silently and slowly
to form a circle around their prey be-
fore they attack.

Omnivores eat both plants and
meat. Chickens are omnivores.
They eat seeds, but they can also
eat worms. human beings are also
omnivores, although some people
choose not to eat meat. These peo-
ple are called vegetarians.
The chimpanzee is omnivorous. It
eats fruits, leaves, palm nuts, seeds
and stems, as well as ants, birds'
eggs, fish and termites. Chimpan-
zees will occasionally kill and eat
baboons and wild pigs.

Lola, upon reading books, I have
learned that different animals
have different mouthparts. The
appearance of their mouthparts
reveals the kinds of food they
eat.
Very interesting Alden! Please tell

Animals that eat plants have flat
teeth. Their teeth are used for
grinding and chewing.

9. Great job kids! Both of you are
smart just like your Lola Nidora!
On the other hand Grandma, meat-
eating animals have strong, sharp
and pointed teeth. These teeth are
used for tearing meat into smaller
pieces.
Animals that pick out and crack
seeds have hard beaks. They do
not have teeth. Just like the
birds!
A mouthpart that is used for suck-
ing looks like a tube. This tiny
tube is called proboscis. Mosqui-
toes have this mouthpart.
That’s not all Lola Nidora! Some
animals have long tongue fas-
tened at the front of the mouth.
This tongue is sticky and pops
out to catch food. Examples are
frogs!

How Animals Get Their Food
All animals need food. No matter where an animal lives, finding food is
an important work it must do in order to survive. However, different animals
differ in the food they eat. They also differ in the way they get their food.
Body Parts
a. Valves and cilia – Clams use their valves to get food. Oyster use both
valve and their cilia in their bodies. The food is drawn into their shell by water
current together with the beating of cilia and the opening of valves.
b. Claws – Cats, tigers and lions use their claws in getting food. Cats catch
mice by using their claws.
c. Tongue – cows and sheep place their lower jaw near the ground while
grazing. They wrap their tongue around the grass and close their mouth.
d. Beaks and Bills – Owls, hawks, kingfishers and other birds use their
beaks in getting food. The kingfishers with their powerful bills, perch on a
tree branch near the water to catch fish. The pelicans use their large bills to
catch fish. Other birds have small, short hard beaks for cracking nuts and
seeds.
e. Tentacles- Squid and octopus use their tentacles to obtain food. A squid
has ten tentacles while the octopus has eight. They also have beak like teeth
used to bite and tear their prey into pieces.
Appearance of the Mouth and Certain Mouth Parts
a. Butterflies, bees and moths use the long fine sucking tubes of their
mouths to sip nectar from flowers.
b. The whale’s big mouth open by the force of the animals, while in for-
ward motion. Around 300 horny baleen plates hang down like curtains from
the roof of the mouth.
c. Cray fishes have mouth parts that crush and bite food into small pieces.
d. Grasshoppers, beetles and termites have biting mouth parts that tear the
food into small pieces before swallowing them.
