Yusuf was born into the house of Ya'qub and was thrown into a well by his brothers. He was then sold into slavery and lived in the house of an Egyptian treasurer. There he was falsely accused by the treasurer's wife of making advances towards her after he refused her seduction attempts. Yusuf was imprisoned despite proving his innocence. In prison, he interpreted the dreams of two other inmates, calling them to believe in Allah alone. He asked one inmate to mention him to his lord to gain release from prison, but was forgotten and remained imprisoned for more years.
