STORIES AND HISTORY
ABOUT
THE BARBUSH FAMILY
Over the decades, I’ve collected a great deal of information and history about The Barbush Family,
most of which is centered around Elizabeth “Lizzie” Walmer Barbush, known to most of us as
Mom Barbush, and also about her 9 children, and about Mom’s 28 (I need to check that number)
Grandchildren.
I’ve written and saved the many articles and documentations of what I have discovered. I’ve saved all
of it on my computer backed up to Carbonite Online Backup and I’ve posted much of those writings online
in many locations, such as Facebook (various pages and groups I have created, family related websites I
have created, and other places (Slideshare being one of those platforms.
Why have I done this? Because I believe that we need to know about and understand out heritage that’s
been handed down to us. It’s about knowing and understanding . . .
OUR IDENTITY: WHO ARE WE?
PAST: Where Have We Come From? OUR HERITAGE
PRESENT: Why Are We Here? OUR PURPOSE
FUTURE: Where Are We Going? OUR DESTINY
I have learned a great deal about our family that I find very useful in discovery Our Identity, Our
Heritage, Our Purpose, and Our Destiny. It’s the important kind of information that I want to share with
all my relatives, cousins’ children, in-laws, my children, and most importantly with my 11 grandchildren.
As an aside, I find that people with whom I am not related can als benefit, and do benefit from these published
writings.
The small group of articles shown in this document are a small percentage of what I have written. I am
using this to give you a taste of what is available in my writings. Somehow, someway, I hope to make my
writings and information available for those now and the generations to come. For now, you can find many
of these writings online by searching family names. You can also request from me documents hat I can
email and give you links to.

AUNT VI, 1 OF 9 KIDS FROM MOM BARBUSH
A former coworker of mine, Dot, sent me these pics yesterday from her Mother's 1947 John Harris
High School Yearbook. She found a Barbush who lived on 12th Street in Harrisburg and asked if I
was related. And I knew it looked
Aunt Vi (Violet) Barbush McLaughlin. Amazing Find for us. Vi was 1 of 9 children that Mom Barbush
raised on 12th Street as a single mother whose husband, Frank, died early, in his 40s, of TB, in a sanitarium
in western PA. Some of the kids and their spouses returned home to live there. Also, Mom Barbush took
in her father and mother, Israel and Johanna Walmer.
Mom Barbush gave us a great heritage. Frank founded Penn Harris Taxi, and when he passed away,
Mom Barbush managed and worked there till in her 80s. Mom answered the phone calls for taxi service.
Several Barbushes drove taxi there - Albert (sometimes), Billy, Frankie, Raymond, and maybe others. And
the Barbush brothers launched their own company, Barbush Taxi, located on the bypass in an old garage
in front of the lot where they later built the former middle school. Older people should know where
"the bypass" is. That was its common name for the road leading to the Farm Show Building.
I should write about Mom Barbush and her life and accomplishments - crab cake business out of her
12th Street home, raising 9 kids, always taking in family, getting the brothers and sisters started on
Duke Street with building lots, Penn Harris Taxi, a descendant of famous Walmers staring with Peter
immigrating to America in 1742, and so on and on.
Thank you Dot for this excellent find from our family history.

This is possibly the only picture of the Barbush Brothers Suburban Taxi. [it’s not the only one. Ronan

The garage was on the bypass off of Herr Street where the Middle School later was.
I remember the pinball machine and the pit where the cabs drove over for underneath maintenance. And of
course, the always smiling Uncle Billy, fireman, owner of sporty Fords, and unforgettable laugh, voice, and
walk.

ATTENTION BARBUSHES AND RELATIVES!!
Descendants of Elizabeth Barbush
AKA Mom Barbush
AKA Elizabeth "Lizzie" Barbush
AKA Elizabeth Walmer Barbush
THIS IS YOUR HERITAGE!!
Here is a group you are invited to belong to: "BARBUSH - Lizzie Walmer Barbush"
THE BELOW LINKED FACEBOOK GROUP provides information on our heritage that we have been
linked to by my Grandmother, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Barbush. We affectionately call he Mom Barbush.
MOM BARBUSH'S maiden name is Walmer. She's the daughter of Israel and Johanna Walmer, my Great
Grandparents
THE PROFILE PIC on this page is of Mom Barbush's 5 sons, my Dad and uncles. It was taken looking
south and on the south side of the State Street Bridge. In the background are homes that are near their home
at 38 North 12th Street where they grew up in Mom's home FULL of family. Mom raised her 9 children
there, brought in her father and mother (Israel and Johanna), and also had other relatives there.
IN DISCOVERING OUR HERTIAGE, I have learned that Mom Barbush (Elizabeth "Lizzie" Walmer) was
a key figure in bringing that heritage to us. I believe that she was a turning point in the return of our
prosperity to us. She was a strong matriarch. She was a trong business woman, having taken over Penn
Harris Taxi Company when her husband, my Grandfather, Frank Barbus passed away at a young age. When
he passed, Mom took over everything in that home on 12th Street.
MOM BARBUSH BOUGHT PROPERTY on Duke Street and provided her sons with lots so her sons and
daughters could build homes and raise families. That happened in the 1950s.
THERE IS A GREAT STORY HERE in our heritage that came through Mom Barbush . . . . a great and
true and meaningful story. To know and understand this story is to know and understand some of who you
are, who we are. It's about your individual identity, our corporate identidy. Here is how I convey it:
IDENTITY: WHO ARE YOU?
PAST: Where Have You Come From? OUR HERITAGE
PRESENT: Why Are You Here? OUR PURPOSE
FUTURE: Where Are You Going? OUR DESTINY
THIS HERITAGE is not only an identification and recognition of our physical generations and genalogy. It
is also an identification and recognition of our spiriual heritage, our spiritual identity, our spiritual purpose,
our spiritual destiny. It's not a false spirituality of strange gods. It's a true and Christian heritage. God is
the God of the generations. God is a great God who has ordained His people to do great things to fulfill His
purposes down through the generations.
UNDER THE "FILES" PAGE of this group, you will find uploaded documents about this heritage.
Specifically related to this message is the one titled
"2002 12 25 Who Are We - 2015 12 03.pdf" which is also at this link:
https://www.facebook.com/download/preview/1002827486444271
FINALLY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, we do not get lost in the physical generations and genealogy as
the only identity we have. Our identity must be founded "IN CHRIST". We must be born again children of
God. We must turn from our sin and turn to Christ as Our Savior and Lord. We must know the heart of the
Gospel message that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man, suffered and died on the cross for our sins,
was buried, was resurrected, and was seen and seen and seen and is still seen today and forever. As we come
to know Christ, we come to know who He is and who we are.

PS: I discovered this heritage when I was 50 years old, before I had any grandchildren. I am now 68
and have 11 grandchildren, each of whom has a prophetic name, identifying them with God given purpose.
They are hearing about their heritage so they can grow into what God has for them as they influence this
world and are part of bringing forth His Kingdom on the earth.

I just started a new Facebook Group shown below.
Please go there to promote your business. Any type of business - from corporations to sole proprietors to
yard sales to antiques in your home.
We will prosper. Mom Barbush was an entrepreneur. I will write about that more fully sometime.
She was Penn Harris Taxi, she gave land to her sons and daughters on Duke Street to build on, she and her
children sold crab cakes from their 12th Street home to restaurants on the Harrisburg area.

FRANK M. BARBUSH, The Grandfather I Never Knew
If I could speak to my Grandfather, Frank M. Barbush, what would I say? Well, let me say . . .
Hello Grandpa Barbush
I never met you and never got to know you, because you left this life before I was born. I do know
your wife, Elizabeth Walmer Barbush. The entire family called her Mom Barbush or just Mom -
whether sons, daughters, grandchildren, or other. Mom Barbush was the king pin of our family,
the pivotal point, the focal point in our family.
I never heard much about you, only that you started Penn Harris Taxi, which lasted for many years and
supported many family members for years. The taxi business was part of the entire Barbush Family . .
. to the extent that Mom Barbush worked the business till in her 70s and 80s. Your sons also drove
taxi, and some grandsons, Raymond for one and maybe Ernie too, drove taxi. The taxi business is . . .
it's in the blood.
In the late 50s or early 60s, your sons started their own taxi company and called it Barbush Taxi.
At some point it was also called Barbush Suburban Taxi. The brothers donated cars and drove them.
It lasted a while and was later sold to Fawbers Taxi.
I never heard of your accomplishments, other than you created Penn Harris Taxi and were prosperous
at it. Other than that, I did not hear your sons and daughters speak well of you. There was an overtone
of something not being right. They did leave me with the impression that you were rich because of
your taxi business. Is that true?
There were some old movies in the family with you in them. I never got to see them. They are probably
lost or stashed away in some box somewhere, and may never be viewed again. If I had seen them,
I could have gained a little more perspective into who you were.
I am told that you died in your 40s of some sickness. I don't remember what that was, but later I learned
it was tuberculosis and you passed away in a sanitarium in western PA. So, that left Mom Barbush to
raise 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. I learned that there was also daughter still born. Thus, 5 boys
and 5 girls in all.
Mom Barbush raised the children at 38 North 12th Street, a duplex, 38/40, in Harrisburg. That must
have been a busy house. In addition to the children, Mom took in her mother and father, Israel and
Johanna Walmer, and also some other relatives. Mom was a strong person and did well in spite of being
the lone caretaker. Thus, Mom became a pivotal point in our family, handing down the heritage of
which I am a part. I am thankful to Mom for that. Many things great transpired because of Mom's
strengths.
I never considered it before, but you must have played a major role in developing our heritage and
passing it down. I don't know exactly what that would be, other than, your created a means for Mom
to raise her family through Penn Harris Taxi.
Well, Grandpa, Pop Barbush, husband of Mom Barbush, I know little about you, but at least, I know
what I have written here. Thank you for what you did for your family that ultimately affects me and
all my family - parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, children, and grandchildren, and on.
Thank you Pop

Deloras F. Barbush - Memorial Gathering
James Eugene Barbush · ·
THE BARBUSH FAMILY
Tomorrow is the Memorial Gathering. There is so much that could be said and remembered, but we have 1
hour to do that. So, let's share some things here.
Mom Barbush raised 9 children at 38 North 12th Street in Harrisburg. I learned from her daughters that she
had a miscarriage that was a girl. Thus, there are actually 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls . . . an even split.
That sounds appropriate.
Below are listed Mom Barbush and her 10 children in order of their birth. The date of their passing and their
age at that time is shown. Also shown is where they were born. Note the ages of their passing - at 94
(Deloras), in their 80s (Mom, Charlie, Toots), in their 70s (Frankie, Albert, Vi), at 67 (Kenny), at 41 (Billy),
at 83 Aunt Betty is (was) still with us.
Mom Barbush was of German descent, having been the daughter of Israel and Johanna Walmer. Her
heritage in the Walmers, and thus our heritage, is extremely significant. They, and thus we, are descendants
of Peter Walmer who came from Germany in 1742. Peter married Anna Margaretta. I have our generations
from Peter Walmer to the present day.
I believe that Mom "Lizzie" Walmer Barbush is a pivotal point in our heritage. She had the ability to
raise 9 children, take in her parents and others, run the Penn Harris Taxi, and channel land to her children.
That's how the Barbushes on Duke Street started. Mom Barbush was prosperous and she conveyed that
prosperity to her descendants. What a privilege that is for us to have.
Betty Barbush-Keys passed away on April 12, 2018 at 84 years old.

STORIES AND HISTORY ABOUT THE BARBUSH FAMILY

  • 1. STORIES AND HISTORY ABOUT THE BARBUSH FAMILY Over the decades, I’ve collected a great deal of information and history about The Barbush Family, most of which is centered around Elizabeth “Lizzie” Walmer Barbush, known to most of us as Mom Barbush, and also about her 9 children, and about Mom’s 28 (I need to check that number) Grandchildren. I’ve written and saved the many articles and documentations of what I have discovered. I’ve saved all of it on my computer backed up to Carbonite Online Backup and I’ve posted much of those writings online in many locations, such as Facebook (various pages and groups I have created, family related websites I have created, and other places (Slideshare being one of those platforms. Why have I done this? Because I believe that we need to know about and understand out heritage that’s been handed down to us. It’s about knowing and understanding . . . OUR IDENTITY: WHO ARE WE? PAST: Where Have We Come From? OUR HERITAGE PRESENT: Why Are We Here? OUR PURPOSE FUTURE: Where Are We Going? OUR DESTINY I have learned a great deal about our family that I find very useful in discovery Our Identity, Our Heritage, Our Purpose, and Our Destiny. It’s the important kind of information that I want to share with all my relatives, cousins’ children, in-laws, my children, and most importantly with my 11 grandchildren. As an aside, I find that people with whom I am not related can als benefit, and do benefit from these published writings. The small group of articles shown in this document are a small percentage of what I have written. I am using this to give you a taste of what is available in my writings. Somehow, someway, I hope to make my writings and information available for those now and the generations to come. For now, you can find many of these writings online by searching family names. You can also request from me documents hat I can email and give you links to. Sincerely, James Eugene Barbush Son of Albert F. Barbush, Sr. Grandson of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Walmer Barbush
  • 2. James Eugene Barbush May 1, 2022 · Shared with Public AUNT VI, 1 OF 9 KIDS FROM MOM BARBUSH A former coworker of mine, Dot, sent me these pics yesterday from her Mother's 1947 John Harris High School Yearbook. She found a Barbush who lived on 12th Street in Harrisburg and asked if I was related. And I knew it looked Aunt Vi (Violet) Barbush McLaughlin. Amazing Find for us. Vi was 1 of 9 children that Mom Barbush raised on 12th Street as a single mother whose husband, Frank, died early, in his 40s, of TB, in a sanitarium in western PA. Some of the kids and their spouses returned home to live there. Also, Mom Barbush took in her father and mother, Israel and Johanna Walmer. Mom Barbush gave us a great heritage. Frank founded Penn Harris Taxi, and when he passed away, Mom Barbush managed and worked there till in her 80s. Mom answered the phone calls for taxi service. Several Barbushes drove taxi there - Albert (sometimes), Billy, Frankie, Raymond, and maybe others. And the Barbush brothers launched their own company, Barbush Taxi, located on the bypass in an old garage in front of the lot where they later built the former middle school. Older people should know where "the bypass" is. That was its common name for the road leading to the Farm Show Building. I should write about Mom Barbush and her life and accomplishments - crab cake business out of her 12th Street home, raising 9 kids, always taking in family, getting the brothers and sisters started on Duke Street with building lots, Penn Harris Taxi, a descendant of famous Walmers staring with Peter immigrating to America in 1742, and so on and on. Thank you Dot for this excellent find from our family history. All reactions: 20 Dena Wentz, Marcia Barbush Yarnell and 18 others 17 comments on next page 2 shares

  • 8. ATTENTION BARBUSHES AND RELATIVES!! Descendants of Elizabeth Barbush AKA Mom Barbush AKA Elizabeth "Lizzie" Barbush AKA Elizabeth Walmer Barbush THIS IS YOUR HERITAGE!! Here is a group you are invited to belong to: "BARBUSH - Lizzie Walmer Barbush" THE BELOW LINKED FACEBOOK GROUP provides information on our heritage that we have been linked to by my Grandmother, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Barbush. We affectionately call he Mom Barbush. MOM BARBUSH'S maiden name is Walmer. She's the daughter of Israel and Johanna Walmer, my Great Grandparents THE PROFILE PIC on this page is of Mom Barbush's 5 sons, my Dad and uncles. It was taken looking south and on the south side of the State Street Bridge. In the background are homes that are near their home at 38 North 12th Street where they grew up in Mom's home FULL of family. Mom raised her 9 children there, brought in her father and mother (Israel and Johanna), and also had other relatives there. IN DISCOVERING OUR HERTIAGE, I have learned that Mom Barbush (Elizabeth "Lizzie" Walmer) was a key figure in bringing that heritage to us. I believe that she was a turning point in the return of our prosperity to us. She was a strong matriarch. She was a trong business woman, having taken over Penn Harris Taxi Company when her husband, my Grandfather, Frank Barbus passed away at a young age. When he passed, Mom took over everything in that home on 12th Street. MOM BARBUSH BOUGHT PROPERTY on Duke Street and provided her sons with lots so her sons and daughters could build homes and raise families. That happened in the 1950s. THERE IS A GREAT STORY HERE in our heritage that came through Mom Barbush . . . . a great and true and meaningful story. To know and understand this story is to know and understand some of who you are, who we are. It's about your individual identity, our corporate identidy. Here is how I convey it: IDENTITY: WHO ARE YOU? PAST: Where Have You Come From? OUR HERITAGE PRESENT: Why Are You Here? OUR PURPOSE FUTURE: Where Are You Going? OUR DESTINY THIS HERITAGE is not only an identification and recognition of our physical generations and genalogy. It is also an identification and recognition of our spiriual heritage, our spiritual identity, our spiritual purpose, our spiritual destiny. It's not a false spirituality of strange gods. It's a true and Christian heritage. God is the God of the generations. God is a great God who has ordained His people to do great things to fulfill His purposes down through the generations. UNDER THE "FILES" PAGE of this group, you will find uploaded documents about this heritage. Specifically related to this message is the one titled "2002 12 25 Who Are We - 2015 12 03.pdf" which is also at this link: https://www.facebook.com/download/preview/1002827486444271
  • 9. FINALLY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, we do not get lost in the physical generations and genealogy as the only identity we have. Our identity must be founded "IN CHRIST". We must be born again children of God. We must turn from our sin and turn to Christ as Our Savior and Lord. We must know the heart of the Gospel message that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man, suffered and died on the cross for our sins, was buried, was resurrected, and was seen and seen and seen and is still seen today and forever. As we come to know Christ, we come to know who He is and who we are. JOIN THIS GROUP AND FURTHER DISCOVER YOUR IDENTITY: WHO YOU ARE PAST: Where You Have Come From OUR HERITAGE PRESENT: Why You Are Here OUR PURPOSE FUTURE: Where You Are Going OUR DESTINY https://www.facebook.com/groups/BarbushFamily/ PUBLIC GROUP • 24 MEMBERS BARBUSH - Lizzie Walmer Barbush 3 Comments Author James Eugene Barbush No takers on this? Who wants this? It's real. Author James Eugene Barbush PS: I discovered this heritage when I was 50 years old, before I had any grandchildren. I am now 68 and have 11 grandchildren, each of whom has a prophetic name, identifying them with God given purpose. They are hearing about their heritage so they can grow into what God has for them as they influence this world and are part of bringing forth His Kingdom on the earth.

  • 14. FACEBOOK POST GROUP - BARBUSH - Lizzie Walmer Barbush James Eugene Barbush · · FRANK M. BARBUSH, The Grandfather I Never Knew If I could speak to my Grandfather, Frank M. Barbush, what would I say? Well, let me say . . . Hello Grandpa Barbush I never met you and never got to know you, because you left this life before I was born. I do know your wife, Elizabeth Walmer Barbush. The entire family called her Mom Barbush or just Mom - whether sons, daughters, grandchildren, or other. Mom Barbush was the king pin of our family, the pivotal point, the focal point in our family. I never heard much about you, only that you started Penn Harris Taxi, which lasted for many years and supported many family members for years. The taxi business was part of the entire Barbush Family . . . to the extent that Mom Barbush worked the business till in her 70s and 80s. Your sons also drove taxi, and some grandsons, Raymond for one and maybe Ernie too, drove taxi. I never heard of your accomplishments, other than you created Penn Harris Taxi and were prosperous at it. Other than that, I did not hear your sons and daughters speak well of you. There was an overtone of something not being right. They did leave me with the impression that you were rich because of your taxi business. Is that true? There were some old movies in the family with you in them. I never got to see them. They are probably lost or stashed away in some box somewhere, and may never be viewed again. If I had seen them, I could have gained a little more perspective into who you were. I am told that you died in your 40s of some sickness. I don't remember what that was, but later I learned it was tuberculosis and you passed away in a sanitarium in western PA. So, that left Mom Barbush to raise 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. I learned that there was also daughter still born. Thus, 5 boys and 5 girls in all. Mom Barbush raised the children at 38 North 12th Street, a duplex, 38/40, in Harrisburg. That must have been a busy house. In addition to the children, Mom took in her mother and father, Israel and Johanna Walmer, and also some other relatives. Mom was a strong person and did well in spite of being the lone caretaker. Thus, Mom became a pivotal point in our family, handing down the heritage of which I am a part. I am thankful to Mom for that. Many things great transpired because of Mom's strengths. I never considered it before, but you must have played a major role in developing our heritage and passing it down. I don't know exactly what that would be, other than, your created a means for Mom to raise her family through Penn Harris Taxi. Well, Grandpa, Pop Barbush, husband of Mom Barbush, I know little about you, but at least, I know what I have written here. Thank you for what you did for your family that ultimately affects me and all my family - parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, children, and grandchildren, and on. Thank you Pop Your Grandson from your son, Albert James Eugene Barbush

  • 16. Deloras F. Barbush - Memorial Gathering James Eugene Barbush · · THE BARBUSH FAMILY Tomorrow is the Memorial Gathering. There is so much that could be said and remembered, but we have 1 hour to do that. So, let's share some things here. Mom Barbush raised 9 children at 38 North 12th Street in Harrisburg. I learned from her daughters that she had a miscarriage that was a girl. Thus, there are actually 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls . . . an even split. That sounds appropriate. Below are listed Mom Barbush and her 10 children in order of their birth. The date of their passing and their age at that time is shown. Also shown is where they were born. Note the ages of their passing - at 94 (Deloras), in their 80s (Mom, Charlie, Toots), in their 70s (Frankie, Albert, Vi), at 67 (Kenny), at 41 (Billy), at 83 Aunt Betty is (was) still with us. Mom Barbush was of German descent, having been the daughter of Israel and Johanna Walmer. Her heritage in the Walmers, and thus our heritage, is extremely significant. They, and thus we, are descendants of Peter Walmer who came from Germany in 1742. Peter married Anna Margaretta. I have our generations from Peter Walmer to the present day. I believe that Mom "Lizzie" Walmer Barbush is a pivotal point in our heritage. She had the ability to raise 9 children, take in her parents and others, run the Penn Harris Taxi, and channel land to her children. That's how the Barbushes on Duke Street started. Mom Barbush was prosperous and she conveyed that prosperity to her descendants. What a privilege that is for us to have. Betty Barbush-Keys passed away on April 12, 2018 at 84 years old.
