This document discusses the pollution caused by plastic waste. It notes that developed countries export large amounts of plastic waste to developing countries like India. India imported over 7,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste from the US in the first half of 1994 alone. Plastic takes 1000 years to decompose, and over 100 million tonnes of plastic are produced worldwide each year. Plastic waste litters land, clogs drains, pollutes the environment, and harms or kills animals. Burning plastic also releases toxic fumes that can cause cancer and respiratory diseases. The key message is that plastic has severely damaged the environment so it needs to be avoided.
