Stem cell research has the potential to treat many diseases, repair damaged cells, and grow human organs. While controversial due to the use of embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells can also be used but are less effective. Embryonic stem cells come from embryos 4-5 days after pregnancy begins containing around 150 cells. Stem cell research will greatly benefit medicine by enabling the creation of new organs to save lives and repair tissues. Stem cells can become many cell types and may allow for limb regeneration.
