This document summarizes the second public meeting for the Steeles Avenue East Bridge Environmental Assessment. The meeting agenda covered the study area, process, purpose and need for the project. An underpass option with 6 lanes on Steeles Avenue was selected as the preferred alternative. Feedback from the first public meeting generally supported this option. Considerations for the design include cycling facilities, transit stops, and the bridge, elevator, and pumping station designs. Next steps include finalizing the design and beginning construction in 2018.

The £28m project has received funding from the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) as well as support from the Department for Infrastructure (NI), Department Transport, Tourism and Sport (Ireland) as well as Derry City and Strabane Council.
The first phase of the project, completed in October 2019 includes 1.8km of new railway track, signaling systems, new platforms and canopies as well as the re-development and restoration of the listed building and links to the city Greenway.
Phase two of the project which comprised a new Park and Ride facility, bus turning facilities and public realm space was completed in November 2020.
The event gave an insight to the challenges of planning and delivery of a complex multi-disciplinary transport project, including the restoration of a listed building.

Understanding Inductive Bias in Machine LearningSUTEJAS
This presentation explores the concept of inductive bias in machine learning. It explains how algorithms come with built-in assumptions and preferences that guide the learning process. You'll learn about the different types of inductive bias and how they can impact the performance and generalizability of machine learning models.
The presentation also covers the positive and negative aspects of inductive bias, along with strategies for mitigating potential drawbacks. We'll explore examples of how bias manifests in algorithms like neural networks and decision trees.
By understanding inductive bias, you can gain valuable insights into how machine learning models work and make informed decisions when building and deploying them.
Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.

Our project entitled “Water Billing Management System” aims is to generate Water bill with all the charges and penalty. Manual system that is employed is extremely laborious and quite inadequate. It only makes the process more difficult and hard.
The aim of our project is to develop a system that is meant to partially computerize the work performed in the Water Board like generating monthly Water bill, record of consuming unit of water, store record of the customer and previous unpaid record.

Terzaghi's soil bearing capacity theory, developed by Karl Terzaghi, is a fundamental principle in geotechnical engineering used to determine the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. This theory provides a method to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of soil, which is the maximum load per unit area that the soil can support without undergoing shear failure. Harnessing WebAssembly for Real-time Stateless Streaming PipelinesChristina Lin
Traditionally, dealing with real-time data pipelines has involved significant overhead, even for straightforward tasks like data transformation or masking. However, in this talk, we’ll venture into the dynamic realm of WebAssembly (WASM) and discover how it can revolutionize the creation of stateless streaming pipelines within a Kafka (Redpanda) broker. These pipelines are adept at managing low-latency, high-data-volume scenarios.

5. Introduction (Study Process)
What is an Environmental Assessment?
• Decision making process used by the
City when studying road and other
infrastructure projects
• Ensures potential environmental, heritage
and social impacts of the project are
evaluated
• Separated into phases that require the
project to be considered in increasing
levels of detail
• Process includes engagement with local
community and affected stakeholders and
landholders
• The first public meeting was on March 23rd,
2016
2017-01-04 5
6. Introduction (Problem / Opportunity)
Why is this study needed?
• Potential for conflicts between vehicles and train traffic is expected to increase with
future volumes
• Level crossing results in delays to both vehicular and rail traffic
• Sidewalks, bike lanes, and the
number of traffic lanes are
inconsistent along Steeles Avenue
East
• Transit service is limited by
congestion in the area
2017-01-04 6
7. Introduction (Problem / Opportunity)
What will be considered in thisstudy?
• Reducing delay for motorists and transit users
• Supporting transit service improvements
• Better accommodating all users along and across Steeles Avenue East
• Introducing cycling facilities
• Improving streetscape/public realm
• Improving safety for all users
2017-01-04 7
8. Alternative Solutions (Option 1)
• Option 1: Do Nothing
• Maintain existing condition
• Crossing at-grade with a 4 lane cross-section
• Baseline for comparison
2017-01-04 8
9. Alternative Solutions (Options 2a & 2b)
• Overpass Options 2a: 4-Lanes and 2b: 6-Lanes
• Steeles Avenue East Over the Rail Corridor
2017-01-04 9
10. Alternative Solutions (Options 3a & 3b)
• Underpass Options 3a: 4-Lanes and 3b: 6-Lanes
• Steeles Avenue East Under the Rail Corridor
2017-01-04 10
11. Preferred Alternative Solution
The preferred alternative solution was Option 3b: 6-lane Underpass
The 6-lane underpass option provides improvements in the following areas identified in
the problem and opportunity statement:
• Remove train and vehicle conflicts
• Improve roadway inconsistency and lack of active transportation facilities
• Reduce delay for all road and rail users
• Support transit expansions and Regional Express Rail
• Accommodate east-west and north-south flows for all street users
• Improve safety for all modes of transportation

The following information was presented:
• Study Process and Purpose
• Existing Conditions
• Alternative Solutions and Evaluation
• Preferred Alternative Solution
Overall the event was well attended, solicited a range of feedback about the study, and
facilitated an exchange of ideas and opinions amongst residents, staff, and the local
councillors.
Generally there was support for both the road under rail option and widening Steeles
Avenue East to 6-lanes. Many attendees also emphasized the need to increase safety
for pedestrians and cyclists along and across the Steeles Avenue East corridor.
15. Cycling Facilities – Cycle Track
2017-01-04 15
The raised cycle track was preferred as it provides a dedicated cycling facility and the
highest level of comfort for cyclists.

The City of Toronto 10-year Cycling Network Plan
identifies a dedicated facility along Steeles
Avenue East between Kelvin Grove Avenue in the
west and McCowan Road in the east.
17. Transit Stops
• Slope of the road east of Redlea Avenue and west of Silver Star Boulevard require
that existing bus stops be relocated
• Bus stop at the rail corridor will be maintained with a drop-off from the curb lane

18. Bridge Design
Rail Bridge
• Reviewed based on a number of factors including cost,
performance, property impacts, constructability,
aesthetics and long-term rapid transit plans for Steeles
Avenue East
• The preliminary bridge type is a pre-stressed box girder.
This will be further studied in the detailed design phase.
PedestrianBridges
• Provide connections across
Steeles Avenue East and to
the properties surrounding
the rail corridor
• Forecasted Weekday AM
Peak Hour Use:
350-1,000 pedestrians
