Five Minute Speech - Building a Prototype for a Lightweight Image Processing ...Michel Alves
In this presentation, I spoke about the main idea of the library 'MyImageLibrary', displaying the central core of this proposed framework. The library is composed of a core of generic representation of images (RGB or RGBA type), a core of spatial filtering, a core for manipulating borders (used mostly by the spatial filter) and a core of similarity metrics. The cores related to spectral filters and metrics for evaluating the quality of images, still in development, should be added in an upcoming release. The implementation of 'MyImageLibrary' has, in principle, purely didactic intent.

Parameter Engineering vs. Parameter Tuning: the Case of Biochemical Coordinat...Stefano Mariani
To cope with nowadays MAS complexity, nature-inspired coordination models and languages gained increasing attention: in particular, biochemical coordination models. Being intrinsically stochastic and self-organising, the effectiveness of their outcome likely depends on a correct parameter tuning stage. In this paper, we focus on chemical reactions rates, showing that simply imitating chemistry "as it is" may be not enough for the purpose of effectively engineer complex, self-organising coordinated systems such as MoK .
Specifying the “Critical Thinking” Construct in Clinical Psychology Training:...James Tobin, Ph.D.
Critical thinking is a complex multidimensional construct whose presence in academic and training curriculums in psychology has largely been limited to scientific courses on research methodology that focus on the logical analysis of data, hypothesis support/refutation and inference-making. Yet the CT competencies required to function as a clinical psychologist expand beyond the analytic and inferential skills pertinent to the scientific method. Graduate training in clinical psychology has been criticized for not cultivating in students a more refined and contextualized set of CT skills that is directly applicable to their future career roles. Specifically, an alternative model of CT that emphasizes specific dispositional and attitudinal components central to self-experience has been lacking. For the psychotherapist, utilizing self-experience in a reflective and informed manner is a primary meta-cognitive ability that appears highly related to the capacity to form efficacious relationships with clients and to treatment outcome. The current project seeks to conceptualize an alternative model of CT uniquely relevant for clinical psychology training.
