How did we attract our audiences?
STAC1E One aspect that attracts our audience (mainly men, ranging between the ages of teens to adults) is our main character STAC1E, because of her attractiveness and good looks; she is tall, blonde slim and curvy, which is visually pleasing. STAC1E oozes sex appeal which is known to sell to audiences. Women would also relate to STAC1E as she is sort of a role model as she takes a stand against men and being mistreated. Some women can also relate to STAC1E’s abuse and bad treatment. This film challenges the stereotype that only females should be murdered in Thrillers, as they are “damsels in distress”. Women like watching the roles being reversed. Women would enjoy seeing a female hero in this film.
Another aspect of this film that attracts audiences is the satire comedy used in the advert whilst the presenter sells STAC1E. The humour is cheesy, cringe-worthy with a twisted dark edge, giving a satire effect; “You may recollect me from such classics as “Tight Tooshies in Tinsel Town, Volume II” is an example of this type of humour used. It also juxtaposes and therefore, magnifies the brutality in the stabbing scene. Through editing, we’ve synchronized the presenters dialogue “she’ll give you exactly what you need” while STAC1E walks away from her murder. This emphasises the dark humour underneath the dialogue.
Another element of this thriller that would attract the audience is the special effects used. Within the stabbing scene we had fake blood drenched over the slob’s stomach as well as on the knife and on STAC1E’s face. Additionally, the actual stabs were relatively brutal and from it creates a gory effect which is particularly attractive to men. We also had the knife in a specific position so that white fairy lights created a sharper effect on it. Moreover, the lighting was transformed with blue sheets that went on top of the studio lights, to give a cold and eerie effect. Overall, the different effects impacted the attraction to the majority of the audience.
