The document discusses the target audience for a media thriller project. The target audience was determined to be 12-20 year old males based on survey results that showed most thriller fans were in this age range and gender. To attract this audience, the media project included a gun, a significant death of a main character, and a black male lead actor. These elements appeal to the target audience by relating to genres and media they already engage with such as violent video games and subverting expectations of typical thriller films.
- The target audience for the media product is 15-19 year old teenage girls
- This age group and gender made up most of the respondents to the questionnaire and the themes of cyberbullying and stalking in the thriller would appeal to and be relevant for them
- While most respondents preferred a male protagonist, the authors decided to feature a female protagonist to challenge stereotypes and appeal more to female viewers who want to see strong, independent female characters they can relate to
The participant provided feedback on a TV spot trailer for a film. The majority had a positive reaction and interest in watching the film based on the trailer. Some felt it did not provide enough information to interest them. Based on the feedback, the creator can see that the level of information intrigued most audiences, but that a longer trailer with more information could appeal to a wider audience. The soundtrack was also engaging.
1) The opening of the thriller follows conventions of the genre by having the main character be the killer and including a character profile to shock the audience. It also uses blood, gore, and ominous music to create tension.
2) The opening deviates from conventions in some ways, such as by showing a Soviet-style montage and having a younger killer than is typical. It also switches from color to black and white.
3) Elements that were included to make the opening successful as a thriller were not showing the actual murder, having an average person as the killer who doesn't know they committed the crime, and creating suspense around the unknown victim.
- The document discusses theories of audience reception for the murder mystery genre, including Barthes' Enigma Code and Hall's Reception Theory. It also discusses factors that influence the audience for murder mysteries, such as age, gender, employment status.
- The author conducted a questionnaire of 25 people about their murder mystery viewing habits. It found that most viewers are older teenagers and young adults who are not married. It also found viewers prefer films with both a murder and kidnapping that feature a charismatic, intelligent protagonist and a violent antagonist.
- The results indicate Hall's Reception Theory applies as different demographics view and interpret murder mystery films in different ways.
The poster depicts the main character Matthew holding a gun in front of an abandoned church, showing his dominance. It continues the red and white color scheme and Blacklisted font from the first poster. The title "Concert Crime" overlaps in red and white text. The release date is displayed above the billing block at the bottom. This poster progression establishes Matthew's increasing power while maintaining visual consistency through its design elements.

The survey analyzed horror movie preferences of respondents. Supernatural and gore sub-genres were most popular, while gothic romance was least popular. Tension was found to be the scariest convention, while character deaths elicited little empathy. Blood and gore was a close second most/least frightening element. A male killer was deemed most likely by respondents, providing an opportunity for a surprising female killer twist.
The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire given to participants about the horror genre to help the author target their short film. The questionnaire asked about gender, age, horror film preferences, favorite types and films. Most respondents who liked horror were aged 18-25 and enjoyed psychological horror. Expectations for horror films included gore, murder, suspense and tension. This influenced the author to make their opening mysterious to intrigue audiences and reveal answers later. The evaluation notes areas for improvement like adding more character/setting questions and a broader range of participants.

This document discusses how different shots and elements of a film production would appeal to both the intended primary audience and a secondary audience. It suggests that stereotypical representations of interrogations and violence would please the secondary audience but help shift their views over time. Emotional shots showing the suffering of the Muslim main character could generate sympathy from the primary audience but not the secondary audience due to stereotypes. The film aims to ultimately change the dominant reading of both audiences by the end. Soundtrack choices also risk appealing more to stereotypes of the secondary audience. Production decisions were based on earlier audience research.
The document discusses the results of a survey about audience preferences for an opening movie scene. The survey showed that the target audience is males ages 14-19 who prefer violence and action over character development. Most respondents wanted a female protagonist ages 19-24 and for the opening scene to feature a male antagonist/killer. The audience favored an opening scene with action, music, and tension rather than dialogue or plot. They also preferred the scene be set in a family home from the protagonist's point of view.
Females participated more in the survey than males. Research shows that women tend to go to the cinema in larger groups, while men usually go with a partner, possibly because men see themselves as protectors. Men prefer action films where they can relate to masculine characters, while women tend to go with friends to watch horror and thriller films. Younger people favor thriller films the most compared to other age groups, likely because they have more free time and income than older people who may be working. For the film, the author should target younger audiences since thrillers appeal most to that demographic. Common thriller subgenres shown to be popular are action, psychological, and supernatural.
The survey analyzed responses from a questionnaire about crime thriller films. 80% of respondents were between ages 16-20, showing the target audience is relatively young. Future surveys should aim for more diversity in ages. More female students (60%) responded than male (40%), surprisingly for a typically male-oriented genre. The majority of respondents visited the cinema quarterly. Respondents agreed lead characters' costumes should distinguish them clearly as protagonist and antagonist. Film trailers were deemed the best marketing technique to attract viewers to a film.
The document discusses the target audience for a horror film created by the author and their group. Their primary target audience is females under 35 and secondary is males under 35, based on UK Film Council statistics showing these demographics prefer horror films the most. 44% of females under 35 and 36% of males under 35 preferred watching horror. The film would receive a 15 rating from the BBFC due to graphic but not gory content, which would not restrict their target audience of ages 15-35. An example interview with 15 year old Amy Clarke is provided to illustrate their target demographic of females under 35 from a middle-class background.
The document discusses the demographics that psychological thrillers appeal to compared to general thrillers. It states that psychological thrillers tend to appeal more to women, as females seek the mental challenge of having to analyze the narrative. Younger audiences also tend to engage more with psychological thrillers, as those in university enjoy being mentally demanded. The BBFC rates psychological thrillers 15 or 18 generally due to their graphic content. In summary, psychological thrillers appeal more to women ages 18-30 who enjoy having to think deeply about the narrative.
According to a survey conducted:
- More females participated compared to males, and females tend to go to the cinema in larger groups while males go with partners.

Research also indicated that middle-class audiences on the ABC scale are most likely to watch crime thrillers that portray middle-class roles resembling the characters. In conclusion, while the genre often attracts both males and females, the film is targeting males ages 15-30 as the primary

Clogged gutters can cause significant damage to a home's foundation, fascia, soffits, and roof by allowing water to accumulate around the home. Water that isn't properly drained away can erode and crack the foundation over time, damage fascia and soffits by collecting in clogged gutters, and cause the roof to rust and leak, potentially leading to a complete collapse. It's important to keep gutters unclogged to prevent these issues and ensure water flows away from the home as intended.

This activity was designed for hypothetical 9th grade studio in art students. The lessons in this activity focus on the “big ideas” of community and transformation. Though this project, students will learn how communities can be transformed through architecture and develop an idea to transform their own communities using architecture and spatial design. First, students will define for themselves what community means, and what creates a “good” community. Then students will identify which communities they are a part of, and the others that exist in those communities with them. From there, students will analyze what the feeling of the community is currently and identify an aspect they think needs development or improvement. Students will then develop a ‘parti pris’, or underlying principle and guiding goal for their architecture project. The goal of each student’s project may be different. The “parti pris” for this activity is transforming or creating thriving communities through meaningful architecture.

Livestock play an important role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals through supporting inclusive economic growth, equitable livelihoods, nutrition and health, and sustainable ecosystems. However, livestock are conspicuously absent from the SDG indicators. Failing to consider the livestock sector could significantly impact efforts to attain the SDGs, as livestock are central to developing economies and the lives of many poor families. Transforming smallholder livestock systems in a sustainable way is key to meeting the growing demand for animal proteins in developing countries.

The music video for "Next Hype" both shows Tempa T performing for the camera as well as quick cuts to different scenes relating to the lyrics, making it both a performance and narrative-based video. The fast pace of the lyrics matches the quick editing of the video and scenes are depicted that help illustrate what is being said in the lyrics, such as a plate being smashed when the word "Smash" is recited. Through both shots of Tempa T's performance and cuts to other scenes telling the story of the lyrics, the video effectively combines performance and narrative elements.
Rap music originated in South Africa in the 1970s and is generally popular among African and African American communities. It uses poetic lyrics with rhyming words set to a beat. Old school rap from the 1970s-1990s featured artists like Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Tupac Shakur. Present rap remains popular and blends with genres like pop and R&B, including artists like Drake, Kanye West, and ASAP Rocky. While rap lyrics can discuss real life, some argue present rap contains overly explicit language, sexual references, and violence that may influence youth.

1. Evaluation question 3 & 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
How did you attract/address your audience?
By Mansour Aetekal
2. Who would be the audience for our media product?
Age
Firstly, the age that I chose for our target audience was influenced by my questionnaire research. By looking at the
diagram to the right, you can see that over 75% of the people that took part in our survey, said that they were aged
15-20. This gave me an clear indication as to what age group we should pick for our target audience. Also by looking
at the diagram on the bottom left, you can see that 69% of people said that they liked thrillers. This therefore means
that the majority of people who like thrillers were aged 15-20 because these statistics were notably higher than other
choices, this would therefore mean that our thriller would attract this particular age group. Eventually, I decided to
make the age for our target audience ranging from 12-20. This decision was based on our target audience research
but other reasons also contributed. Initially, I decided to go 3 years below the age group shown in our research
because of many different reasons. Firstly, I found that our thriller piece didn’t include any inappropriate scenes that
would only be suitable for people over 18, we only included one violent scene which included a gun with the death of
one of the characters which also showed their blood wound, however the gunshot had appropriate special FX added
to it and the blood wound wasn’t too graphic which meant that teens and viewers of 12+ would be able to watch it.
We also carried out other research for our target audience, one of which was the regulations research which meant
we had to research about the BBFC which is the British Board Of Film Classification who classify certain movies with
different age restrictions. The research into this particular company gave us the guidelines of what a typical 12+ film
should include and these guidelines matched what our thriller included which made it even more suitable to choose
this age group. For example, the BBFC states that films at 12+ are allowed to include moderate violence but should
not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be
permitted if they can be justified by their context. This is extremely similar to our piece because we also show a brief
moment of a blood wound , you can see this from our media product in the top right-hand corner. They also state
that weapons and action sequences can be presented however weapons that are easily accessible by children such
as knives should not be permitted. This is also illustrated in our thriller because we only use a gun which seems to be
a weapon that people over 12+ see in films and would not be influenced to acquire one in reality. Overall, I believe
that the age restriction or classification for the film is justified through our media product itself but also through
previous media research that aided with our ability to make the right decision .
3. Gender
As well as age, our thriller was aimed at a certain gender also, this decision was also influenced by target audience
research along with other factors. Firstly, by looking at the diagram to the left we can see that over half of the people that
took part in our questionnaire for our research were males. Also, by looking at the diagram under it we can see that 69%
of the people also that took part in the survey like thriller films. By combining the two pie charts we can see that the
majority of people who like thrillers are male. Furthermore, I decided to make the gender of the target audience aimed at
males more than females. This is because males like thrillers more as more of them took part in our thriller questionnaire
and most of them like thrillers, which gave is an indication that they might like our action thriller as it goes under the
same category. More males took part in our survey which meant that this gender was more popular and influenced my
decision to choose that particular gender to focus on or target. Not only did the research contribute to this but other
factors also gave clear indications of what gender to aim our thriller at. Although action thrillers are increasing becoming
appealing to women in the last decade, from the codes and conventions used in our thriller we felt that males would still
be more attracted to our thriller. Firstly, our thriller includes the death of a woman where as the two males included stay
alive. This particular gender representation portrays women in a negative way through her death, in contrast the men on
screen seem to stay dominant as the main antagonist and protagonist(Look at these characters at the bottom of the
slide). By analysing this, I came to the conclusion that women would not approve of our thriller because they are
witnessing another woman die, this ultimately decreases the morale of women and they may also feel as if they are not
considered enough which would be the typical mind-set of female viewers. In contrast males would appeal more as
they're gender are still prevailing on screen and they might feel encouraged because they have not faced the death of any
males as the men in our thriller don’t die. We also found that males are more attracted to the moderate violence that is
included in action thrillers like ours. In contrast women are found to be more attracted to romance or drama films that
don’t have as much action. Overall, we found that our gender focus would stay on males because of the research that I
have done but also through my natural instincts to pick certain decisions based on the attitudes of action thriller films in
the film industry.

4. How did we attract our target audience?
After deciding what target audience our film was going to focus on. We would essentially have to attract this audience to ensure that they
would want to carry on watching after the opening has ended. To make sure we attracted the audience within the first minutes of our action
thriller, we included different key aspects of the film that would attract and interact with our audience.
The use of a gun(Look below)
As our target audience was based around viewers who would enjoy and like thrillers. We included the use of a gun to illustrate that our piece
was an action thriller. Not only would we abide by codes and conventions but we would also attract viewers. The use of the gun will appeal to
teenagers ageing from 16-19 because this particular age range are more likely to play violent videogames such as Call of Duty and other games
that appeal to teenagers which are also social trends, for example, a survey conducted online showed that 97% of teens are gamers. The age
range is also in the category of our target audience. It will appeal to them because they are already familiarised with the use of weapons
through gaming, therefore the idea of a gun in an action thriller will aid in their ability to not only enjoy the film but will also influence them
into carry on watching because it is relatable. The medium shot used to portray the gun also emphasises the level of detail used to represent
the weapon in a realistic way, quite similar to how videogames show guns in detail also which is seen by the teens in our target audience.
5. The significant death
Our action thriller included the death of Sara Smith who is a pregnant wife that is unable to repay a loan back to Arthur Banks who is the films
protagonist and the villain who shoots her in cold blood. Killing is an unfortunate everyday occurrence which is an example of social realism. Films
that touch on this subject are often popular with the target audience of 12+. For example, there are many deaths in the Harry Potter series and
their target audience is usually aimed at viewers of the age of 12+ which is also linked to our target audience age range. In action thrillers, death is
usually the reason for the unbalanced equilibrium that would trigger a plan to restore the equilibrium. This means that people would be attracted
to the idea of death because of its ability to start a good movie plot, for example, a cunning revenge plan that would excite and stimulate viewers to
carry on watching a film because of its unpredictable outcomes. This is linked to our thriller because the husband of Sara Smith, Marcus Smith ,
watches her die and runs to her in her dying moments. He then finds out that she is pregnant. The significant death and shocking news of Marcuse's
wife being pregnant can attract viewers because they would be curious as to what would happen next as well as seeing what Marcuse's response
would be which is also a revenge plot against the antagonist Arthur Banks. The shot of Marcus and Sara Smith illustrates the close connection that
the two characters had, this can also appeal to viewers who are in a relationship because they are seeing another representation of one and might
feel that they can also relate , therefore our film also has the ability to not only address our audience but we are able to communicate and interact
with them through relatable aspects of everyday life.
6. The use of Actors
Through the simple use of actors we were able to attract but also retain the audiences attention however I am only mentioning the male
gender because this was our target audience. By including a black main male actor we were able to appeal to our target audience. The use of a
black main character subverts the social expectations of how main characters are suppose to be in typical action thrillers, For example, the
majority of main characters in action thrillers are usually white. This challenging convention of our thriller would attract our audience because
they are inclined to be more fascinated to watch our thriller because it includes aspects that go against stereotypes. Our thriller will therefore
stand out as an action thriller and will be seen as unique, as a result, characters may also take interest in a film that doesn’t abide by the
normal expectations of typical action thrillers, they are going to want to watch a film that is distinctive in its ability to portray itself in a
different approach.

7. Conclusion for Question 3+4
Overall, our main target audience was based on age and gender. We felt that other considerations
were irrelevant, for example, a persons social class. Altogether I chose our target age to be 12-21
year olds. This was illustrated through the research and opinions that I presented in the second
slide. Our gender was also focused on males , this was also influenced by research but also other
factors that contributed to my target audience decisions. I have shown specific diagrams and
pictures that have related to our target audience, this is so you can see visual evidence. I believe my
decision in reference to target audience was accurate enough and will benefit our group because
we are able to successfully target a specific audience but also attract them through our thriller
product. Our ability to attract/address our audience was based around the key aspects of our
thriller which include the use of props, use of actors and also how we portrayed different scenarios,
all of these aspects would contribute to our ability of appealing to a wider range of our target
audience. The target audience was important because we would then need to relate this to how we
would draw in the target audience. Overall, I believe that the target audience we planned for would
be satisfied significantly by our thriller as it was designed specifically for our thriller. The ability to
answer and evaluate these questions was supported by other sources such as the coursework we
were assigned that helped me choose a specific audience.
