Social media allows for multi-directional interactions around online content. A social network specifically allows direct interactions between users on topics of mutual interest. People spend a significant amount of time on social media, with over 22% of online time spent on social networks like Facebook, which has over 500 million active users who are connected through on average 130 friends. It is important for parents to be aware of their children's social media use and online activities to keep them safe from potential dangers.
This document discusses the immunobiology of cancer. It begins with an outline and then covers cancer causes including genetic factors and carcinogens. It describes the innate and adaptive immune system, including mechanisms of immunosurveillance and immunoediting that allow tumors to evade detection. As an example, it examines hepatocellular carcinoma and the failure of immune responses against it. The document concludes by discussing immunotherapy approaches like passive monoclonal antibody therapy and active vaccination strategies that aim to harness the immune system against cancer.

The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise boosts blood flow, releases endorphins, and promotes changes in the brain which help enhance one's emotional well-being and mental clarity.
The document provides information about past tense verbs in English. It begins by listing examples of subject pronouns and their corresponding forms of "to be" in the present and past tense. It then discusses using the simple past tense to talk about past events and actions. It provides practice exercises for learners to identify and use past tense verbs correctly in sentences. It concludes with a pronunciation guide for verbs ending in /t/ and /d/ sounds.
Neuronal and glial differentiation of human pluripotent stem cellsDiana Santos
This document summarizes research on differentiating human pluripotent stem cells into neuronal and glial cells. It discusses protocols for generating several neural cell types, including dopaminergic neurons, motor neurons, GABAergic neurons, cholinergic neurons, retinal cells, and oligodendrocytes. These differentiation techniques aim to provide functional cells for applications in disease modeling, drug discovery, and regenerative medicine for conditions like Parkinson's, ALS, retinal degeneration, and multiple sclerosis. However, improving differentiation efficiency and safety is still needed, especially for induced pluripotent stem cells.
This document discusses cell and tissue engineering, specifically focusing on how substrate stiffness influences cell fate and differentiation. It summarizes key studies that demonstrated mesenchymal stem cells differentiate into different cell types (osteogenic, myogenic, adipogenic) depending on the stiffness of the substrate they are cultured on. Similarly, embryonic stem cells were shown to express different genes associated with various differentiation pathways depending on whether they were cultured on stiff or soft surfaces. The document concludes that substrate stiffness is an important regulator of stem cell behavior that can guide their differentiation.
The document discusses the Data Access Object (DAO) pattern in J2EE applications. The DAO pattern separates business logic from data access logic. A DAO provides a common interface to access a data source. The DAO encapsulates data source access and manages data transfer objects (DTOs) that are used to exchange data between business objects and the DAO. Sample code illustrates a DAO interface, implementation, DTO, and client using the DAO to access inventory data without coupling to the specific data source implementation.
Hormone replacement therapy and breast cancer in postmenopausalDiana Santos
The document discusses hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its risks and benefits. It analyzes data from randomized clinical trials and observational studies on combined HRT (estrogen and progestin) and estrogen-only therapy. The main findings are:
1) Combined HRT is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer, especially invasive lobular carcinoma, compared to estrogen-only therapy or no treatment. The risk increases with longer use.
2) Estrogen-only therapy is not conclusively linked to an increased breast cancer risk in clinical trials but some observational studies find a small elevated risk.
3) Both types of HRT improve menopausal symptoms but combined HRT carries greater health risks
The document discusses the properties and uses of light. It covers natural and artificial light sources, the characteristics of light including that it travels in straight lines and can be reflected, and how light behaves when reflected by different mirror shapes like flat, concave, and convex. Applications of light in healthcare like x-rays and lasers are mentioned as well as industrial uses such as metal cutting, photocopying, and microscopy. Simple devices that apply light properties including periscopes, magnifying glasses, and color wheels are also described.
Human mesenchymal stem cell position within scaffold influences cell fate in ...Diana Santos
This document summarizes research on culturing human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) using bioreactors to direct osteoblastic differentiation. Static culture limitations include non-uniform growth and nutrient diffusion constraints. Dynamic bioreactor culture using alginate beads overcomes these limitations. Studies show hMSC proliferation and osteoblastic markers like BMP-2 and OPN levels increase with shear stress levels and time in culture. hMSC position within scaffolds also influences fate, with inner regions of large beads showing higher differentiation. Dynamic culture thus enhances hMSC expansion and osteoblastic differentiation for applications like bone regeneration compared to static methods.

betere lichaamsbalans
