St. Ignatius of Loyola was born in 1491 in Spain and founded the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, in 1539 which was approved by Pope Paul III in 1540. He started his life as a gambler, soldier, and lady's man but became devoutly religious after being seriously wounded in the Battle of Pamplona in 1521. He died in 1556 and was canonized in 1622. The Loyola family crest symbolizes generosity and loyalty with wolves looking into a pot of food and seven red stripes representing blood shed for the king.
