Mary grew up speaking three languages and became queen after both of her parents passed away, being the first queen since the 12th century. During her five year reign, she tried to convert England back to Catholicism through force, burning or killing over 300 Protestants, earning her the nickname "Bloody Mary." Mary died after becoming sick, though she initially believed her symptoms were from pregnancy, naming her half-sister Elizabeth as her successor to carry on her legacy.
