St. Elizabeth of Portugal was born in 1271, died on July 4, 1336 and was canonized in 1625. She is the patron saint of Portugal. As a Spanish princess, she married the King of Portugal at age 12 and had two children. Known for her piety and gift for peacemaking, she brokered peace between two fighting kings despite risks to her health and died soon after on July 4, 1336.
