1. A HEARTFELT
‘THANK YOU’ TO THE
ST. ELIZABETH

Mrs. Angela Di Prima, Principal
I WILL MAKE EVERYONE FEEL WELCOMED AND APPRECIATED. I WILL VALUE ALL PEOPLE AS CHILDREN OF GOD. I WILL USE MY WORDS TO HELP AND NOT HARM.
Y O R K C A T H O L I C E D U C A T I O N C E N T R E
As we celebrate the accomplishments
of this academic year and prepare
to enjoy the summer vacation, I
encourage you to take a few moments
to reflect on the successes and great
experiences created by the members
of the St. Elizabeth CHS community
over the last few months. When you
browse through the extraordinary
photographs and articles in this
edition of Highlights, you will have a
glimpse into the daily experience of
our students, an experience rooted in
Faith and positive social, emotional and
academic growth. This issue also gives
witness to the dedication of a team of
teachers and staff who help create these
experiences and encourage students to
reach their God-given potential in the
arts, athletics and academics with the
support of a strong parent community.
This edition will focus on the work of
our school, in terms of the regional arts
and extra-curricular artistic program,
such as the production of You Can’t
Take It With You; the outstanding
accomplishment of our athletes; and
the academic success seen throughout
the various disciplines. It also focuses
on the wonderful spirit of social justice
and giving to the community-at-large,
which is so fundamental to the St.
Elizabeth CHS experience. As Principal
of this school, it gives me great pride to
be able to share these events with you,
especially as I prepare to bid farewell to
this community
to assume an
administrative
leadership
position with
the York
Catholic District
School Board
in September.
On behalf of
the school
community, I
wish to officially
welcome Mr.
John Heinrich,
incoming
Principal and
Ms. Eleonora
Morcos,

Vice-Principal,
both joining
St. Elizabeth CHS from Sacred Heart CHS. I
hope they, too, will experience the excellence
of this teaching and learning community
in the years to come. As well, I would
like to take this opportunity to express and
acknowledge those who will be leaving our
school community and who have dedicated
years to excellence in teaching. Vice-Principal
Fabian Walsh retired after 14 years at
St. Elizabeth CHS. For the last five years,
Mr. Walsh is most notably remembered
for overseeing the Regional Arts Program
and for coaching the Rugby team. As
well, Mr. Colagiacomo (Business), Mrs.
Strgacic (Science), and Mr. Scinocca,
Guidance Counsellor, have also retired this
year. We wish each of them wonderful
experiences in their future endeavours and
thank them all for their support of our
students and families over the years. Your

THE MINISTER’S STUDENT ADVISORY
COUNCIL
Mrs. T. Penney, ESP Teacher Advisor
St. Elizabeth would like to congratulate grade 11 student Sabrina Denicola. Sabrina
was recently chosen to be a member of the Minister’s Student Advisory Council.
Chosen among thousands of applicants across the province, Sabrina will have
the opportunity to provide input and direction to the Minister of Education on
curriculum, student life and a variety of issues that impact the student experience
in Ontario. Sabrina was chosen for her commitment to continuously improve the
quality of student life here at St. Elizabeth. She is a member of ESP (Empowering
Student Partnerships) and Peer Ministry and continues to generously give her time
to our community. Sabrina is one of only 60 students from all parts of the province
who have met and will continue to meet in order to exchange ideas and to provide
input directly to those who have the capacity to create change. We look forward
to hearing from Sabrina throughout the coming school year in a variety of forums.
Recently, Sabrina’s appointment was announced and celebrated at the York Catholic
District School Board’s Board of Director’s meeting. Congratulations Sabrina! Your St.
Elizabeth family is very proud of you!
From L: Patricia Preston, Director of Education;
Elizabeth Crowe, Chair; Sabrina Denicola, Member

EMPOWERING
STUDENT
PARTNERSHIPS
MAKES A
DIFFERENCE!
Mrs. T. Penney, ESP
Teacher Advisor, YRP
School Liason
Empowering Student Partnerships (ESP) was proud to invite
representatives from both CrimeStoppers and Kids Help Phone to
our year-end Mass. This year, on National Pink Day, ESP was able to raise
funds through the sale of Pink Day t-shirts, Pink Helping Hands and
Rainbow Bracelets. Due to the generosity of the St. Elizabeth community,
we were able to make significant donations to both of these worthwhile
organizations.
Mr. Dave Mountain, Chair of Crimestoppers and Mr. Norm Smythe,
from Kids Help Phone, were able to join us at our year-end Mass in
order to accept donations from ESP. We were also honoured to have in
attendance, Officer Trevor Brown, CrimeStoppers Liaison to YCDSB and
Officer Rob Ruffa, our school resource officer. The members of ESP chose
these two organizations to donate funds to, as both provide invaluable
services to our community. Students and members of the community
who want to do the right thing can access the services provided by the
many volunteers from CrimeStoppers. The information provided to
this organization, through the work of many volunteers, provides Police
Services with the critical information required to bring criminals to justice.
Kids Help Phone provides assistance to young people who need help with
many issues such as mental health, bullying, and abuse.
Many members of our community have been helped by this important
service. ESP is proud to continue to work towards providing a safe and
inclusive environment for all members of our community. This fundraising
effort is just one of the many ways that Empowering Student Partnerships
can continue to contribute to the St. Elizabeth community.

3. Une année super en langues vivantes!
MODERN LANGUAGES COUNCIL:
UNE ANNÉE FORMIDABLE!
Mlle Volpe, FSL and International Languages Department
The International Languages Council had a very successful 2013-2014 school year!
The council hosted numerous events such as a salsa lesson, annual Christmas pot-
luck and Carnaval. The salsa lesson had a record turn-out of 30 people! Ms. Ebanks
was very generous to lend her time and talent to teach our students how to salsa and
express themselves through dance! Thank you Ms. Ebanks! This December, students gathered together to celebrate Christmas
and share traditional international dishes with their friends for our annual Christmas Pot-Luck. Carnaval raised money for St.
Gaspar School in Tanzania. Our crêpe café, bake sale, Bonhomme photos, trivia game, dress-up days, and Bonhomme visits helped
spread la joie de vivre over a very long and cold winter! We would like to thank our dedicated council members for making each
of these events so successful. At our final meeting, we said goodbye to graduating members and we would like to acknowledge
Nikita Zhukovich, Rachel Courts, Alessia Servidio, and Olga Mudrachenko for their dedication, passion and enthusiasm to
promote language and culture at St. Elizabeth. We congratulate our new administration team for 2014-2015. A big thank you to all
teachers and administration for supporting our events. Looking forward to another successful year!
LE THÉÂTRE FRANÇAIS ET
CAFÉ EN PASSANT
M. D’Astoli, FSL and International
Languages Department
On April 30, the grade 10 and 12 French
classes had a very entertaining experience at
The Berkeley Street Theatre. They enjoyed
the play, Les Précieuses Ridicules, a one-act
satire by Molière. The play revolves around
two witty ladies who indulge in lively word
games and conversations. When their suitors
are rejected, they scheme a plan to teach the
young women a lesson. When all is said and
done, the two pretentious young ladies are
embarrassed to learn that the men they had
fallen in love with were actually the rejected
suitors’ servants. The staging, lighting, music
and of course acting, all contributed to the
success of this production. After the play, it
was off to Café en Passant, in Richmond Hill,
for a delicious lunch and dessert. A great way
to end such a wonderful experience!

and International Languages Department
QUEL DÉLICE!
On May 23, all grade 9 applied French
classes and their teachers, Mme
Bernabei, Mlle Guinci, Mlle Volpe
and M. D’Astoli, participated in a truly
unique French cooking experience with
Chef Suzanne! They prepared chocolate
lava cakes and they were delicious! Some
students also prepared herbal tea for their
classmates.
Chef Suzanne took students on a step-
by-step journey in the preparation of this
chocolaty-rich dessert while listening to
some French music and using spoons as
instruments to play along with the music.
Students learned about the culture,
specifically about the Quebec national
holiday, St. Jean de Baptiste Day, and
communicated en français.
What a wonderful experience for the
students and, if you so please, feel free to
make the recipe yourself. Your children
have the recipe to Gâteau au Chocolat
Fondant.
Bon Appétit!

Best of
Luck to Mr.
Colagiacomo from all Business
Department members. Mr. Colagiacomo
has made the extra mile worth it for
many of his students. He has been
a formidable business and computer
science teacher at St. Elizabeth for over
20 years and will be dearly missed.
His business acumen has continued
throughout the lives of former and
present students who have always
thanked him for preparing them for
the 'real' world. Students and staff
wish him all the best in his future
endeavours.

4. ST. ELIZABETH’S
YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH
YOU
PRODUCTION
Ms. J. Coulis, Producer
BRAVO!This year’s production, You Can’t
Take It With You took to the stage at the York
Catholic District School Board Centre for the Arts
Thearte April 3rd, 4th and 5th. You Can't Take
It With You has been delighting audiences since
1936. Written by George S. Kaufman and Moss
Hart, this Pulitzer-Prize winning comedy celebrates
non-conformity as we see life through the eyes of
the Sycamore and Vanderhof family. The message
of the play can be summed up in the title. It's just common sense because we really can't take it with us. No matter how much
wealth we amass, it does not go with us beyond the grave. If we choose money over happiness, we can become stuffy and miserable
just like the character in the play, Mr. Kirby. What Grandpa Vanderhof teaches us is that there are many pathways to happiness.
Make certain you follow yours. Each show was well received by the audience. The seats were filled with parents, students, staff
and members of our school community. This production team was comprised of an unbelievable set of staff and students who gave
their time and talent to ensure the show was a success. A huge thank you must be expressed to our directors, Ms. Roksolana
Jaworskyj and Ms. Karen Sorbera, for their creative vision, organization and commitment to the production. Many thanks
are owed to the creators of our amazing set, constructed under the leadership of Ms. Jeannette Dowson as well as set designer
Michael Daneluzzi and his crew. A special thank you to Mr. Doug Speare for his assistance with lighting, sound and theatre
management. Thank you to Ms. Maria Frade who spent many lunches organizing ticket sales and Ms. Laura Volpe for all of her
hard work on publicity along with students Jessica Bartella, Michelle Cavaleri and Monique Lopez for their original poster
design. The costumes and props were creatively put together by the directors, Ms. Laura Volpe and Ms. Melanie Elacqua with the
assistance of the following students; Julianne Bisnaire, Margarita Cid, Zach Colangelo, and Britteney Richichi. Thank-you
goes to hair and make-up by Sonia Caruso of Pure Lash and Ms. Jocelyn Shih with the assistance of the students Emily Livi and
Jordana Mordini. Our wonderful t-shirts to help promote the show were designed by Mr. Phil Sax and organized by Ms. Karen
Ebanks. A thank you also goes out to Mr. Yolan Chetty for the photography in the front lobby, Mr. Eric Fabroa for creating our
St. Elizabeth's Productions logo and Mr. Marko Iskric for co-producing the show. Our show would have never run so seamlessly
without the fantastic Stage Managers: Julia Carrano, Maria Merenda, and Julia Tomasone.
A special thanks go out to the RAP Secretary, Ms. Luba Papulkas who
worked on promoting the show, organizing elementary schools, producing
the program and much more! We would also like to extend a thank you to the
administration especially, Mr. Fabian Walsh for his support in making this
show a success and a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Thank you to all the staff here at St. Elizabeth for supporting the students and
staff involved as they embarked on this wonderful extra-curricular experience.
Finally, we must acknowledge the amazing group of students who dazzled the
audience. They dedicated countless hours in preparation for this production.
These students are shining examples of what characterizes St. Elizabeth’s
students. They are astounding, talented, committed and enthusiastic.
Congratulations on a Job Well Done!

5. Drama Students Will Never Forget The Big Apple
Mrs. K. Sorbera, Arts Drama Department
This Spring, the RAP and Comprehensive drama students along with Ms. Sorbera, Ms.
Jaworskyj and Mr. B. Morrison travelled to the exciting destination of New York City.
And exciting it was! Students enjoyed many of the sites and sounds this vibrant city has
to offer. They visited many historical places including: The Empire State Building, Time
Square, Central Park, Strawberry Fields, Belvedere Castle and The 911 Memorial. In
addition, students visited the American Museum of the Moving Image where they were
able to experience the world of film through interactive activities. Students were also
given a tour of Radio City Music Hall and enjoyed a driving tour of Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village, and Little Italy. Students
shopped till they dropped, bargain-shopped on Canal Street and hit the spring sales at Maceys. But above all, the highlight of
our trip was taking a Master Class in acting at a professional NYC Acting & Production studio. And what would a drama trip
be without theatre? Students spent time in the theatre district, where they watched the award winning play The Cripple of
Innishmen, starring Daniel Radcliff a.k.a Harry Potter. After the play, students were rewarded with autographs and photos
with Mr. Radcliff. After this, the floodgates were opened and the next evening students went to a variety of shows including:
Once starring Adina Manzel; Of Mice and Men starring James Franco; and The Realistic Jones starring Michael C. Hall. Students
stormed the stage doors and were able to meet and take pictures with some of their favourite actors after the shows – really
taking in what Broadway has to offer! It was a wonderful trip enjoyed by all and we look forward to doing it again!
SECOND SEMESTER DRAMA PERFORMANCES
Drama classes have been working hard at their performances. The Grade 9s have invited
family and friends to watch their Docudramas. This is an ensemble piece that students
create highlighting a social issue that is important to them and prevalent in society today.
The Grade 10s performed Cinderella and Puss In Boots - Commedia style for the elementary
school audiences. The Grade 11s hosted their annual Charity Café, which involved comedy
sketches, food, drink
and prizes. They raised
$2000.00 for Camp
Oochigeas, the charity of
their choice. Finally, the
Grade 12s presented A Piece of My Heart, a stirring ensemble piece about
nurses serving in Vietnam and their lives after the war. Everyone has
worked very hard and everyone is undoubtedly looking forward to a well-
deserved break. Enjoy and have a great summer!

ATHLETIC COUNCIL EVENT
SUPPORT HEART AND
STROKE FOUNDATION
Ms. N. Filice, Department Head of Health and Physical
Education
St. Elizabeth’s Athletic Council organized three fundraising
events during the school year. A Staff-Student Soccer game in
November, a Winter Olympics Spirit-wear Civies Day in January
and a Staff-Student Volleyball game in February. The Athletic
Council also hosted a free Spirit-wear Civies Day in May. These
four spirit-building events had both students and teachers generating some fun and friendly competition
for the St. Elizabeth students to watch. The Athletic Council raised $1,400.00 in total and decided to
donate the $1,400.00 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Every dollar raised is helping Canadians with
heart disease to live longer. Also, part of what the Heart and Stroke Foundation promotes is prevention,
which begins with healthy active living and involves both fitness as well as healthy eating. Fitness
and healthy eating must be part of your daily lifestyle routine in order to be of benefit. The cheque
was presented to Natalie Russell from the York Region branch of the Heart and Stroke Foundation at
St. Elizabeth’s Athletic Banquet held at the Royalton Banquet Hall on June 11. Natalie commended
everyone for their generosity and hard work to raise the money but also for working on their fitness
level. She shared that St. Elizabeth Catholic High School has been the school with the most amount
of funds raised and donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

8. BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURS GO TO WORK...
Marketing Fair 2014
Mr. K. Ho and Mrs. L. Mastrotto, Business Department
Marketing 2014 was in full glory with Mr. Ho’s and Mrs. Mastrotto’s marketing classes.
Students brought to life their creative marketing strategies for worthy causes. Themes
prevailed with Shore-bet, P.A.C.T. Treats-Frozen, One-Stop Dessert Shop Icy Treats, Things
Hot-Heated with Chris & the Boys Cuisine and 4 dummies,
and Grill Spiducci Sensations. Piccolo Café and Krispy
Kreators delighted the sweet tooth of fellow students.
Delectable smells from Waffle Treats, Raving Sweets and
Let's Get Tropical attracted students as they entered and
exited the cafeteria. Neither heat nor exhaustion stopped
these students from giving their all to their charity of choice. Students
were able to successfully select ‘Product-Placement-Promotion-Price’
marketing strategies that appealed to ST. E’s consumers, profiting
in excess of $2000 dollars for the Heart & Stroke and Sick Kids
Foundations. Way to go BUSINESS STUDENTS!
Monopoly Fun in EconomicsMr. K. Ho, Acting Department Head of Business
On May 5 to May 6, Mr. Ho’s Grade 12 Economics class participated in a
competition of property management by playing the board game 'Monopoly'. During
the game, students selected their game pieces, purchased property and devised a
plan to bankrupt their fellow classmates. Strategic moves were based on simple
principles of economics such as different types of business organizations and
competitions, government regulations, and bartering. What seemed to be
'fun and games' was actually an extension of their learning, as Mr. Ho’s class
experienced firsthand the peaks and perils of the business world.
Although no one lost, five students excelled above the others. By the end of the
tournament, they had accumulated the largest net worth and equity. Congratulations
to Shannelle Bautista, Ronald Davila, Jonah Melo, Kristen Conte and Maya Munir
for successfully applying the Economics curriculum. Students were able to implement
more than just 'textbook' lessons as they now understand the 'critical thinking' strategies
required for successful business practices.
Scribbles for
Success, an
Organization
that Gives
Mr. K. Ho, Acting
Department Head of
Business
Scribbles for Success has had another year of success. The
initiatives we worked on were:
halloween: Scribbles for Success arranged a photo booth with
props for students to take memorable pictures of themselves and
friends. Students had a blast! Scribbles also held a Halloween bake
sale with a variety of delicious treats to choose from.
Civies Day: On March 4, Scribbles for Success held a civies day.
Students donated $1 and gently used school supplies. The
donations received included items such as pencils, pens and rulers.
The St. Elizabeth student-body was very generous, raising over
$1000 and six large boxes of school supplies.

9. SCIENCE & MATH NEWS
OUT OF
THIS
WORLD!
Science Mural: The first
science mural depicting the
earth and space science strand is
well underway and approaching
completion. Artists Christina
De Luca, Jessica Hoang, Nick
Makhalik and Elizaveta Zaslavskaya
have been working hard to leave a
lasting impression in the halls of the
science department. We look forward
to seeing the finished product and
anticipate the beginning of the second
mural in the fall. A big “Thank You” to
Mrs. H. Buzdon for her artistic advice
and constant support for the fantastic
science mural on “Earth and Space”
science. Many thanks to the science
department for their support for this
mural and a special thanks to Mrs. J.
Shih for her contributions.
ASPIRING ENGINEER WINS
CONTEST!
Mrs. S. Grove, Department Head of
Science
A special Congratulations to Nicholas
Huang (with Mrs. D. Ziorli and Mr.
M. Scimes) for finishing in THIRD
PLACE in the province for the Ontario
Association of Physics Teacher contest in
May 2014. This is the highest finish ever
for a St. Elizabeth student writing this
contest. We are all so proud of Nicholas!
In addition, he won free tuition to the
University of Toronto’s DEEP program for aspiring Engineers. BRAVO!
sharelife: On May 29, Scribbles for Success teamed up
with our Sharelife Committee to bring St. Elizabeth
Sharelife Day to life. The day was filled with fun and
excitement. There was live music in the courtyard,
face painting, and a variety of foods for sale. All
proceeds went to Sharelife, which is the Catholic
community’s response to providing care and outreach
to those in need through social services agencies.
DONATIONS
THIS YEAR
FROM
SCRIBBLES
FOR
SUCCESS:
sT. Joseph The worker:
Scribbles donated
over $1000 of
school supplies (crayons, pencil crayons, pencils, etc.)
to our school Trustee, Mrs. Cathy Ferlisi and her
parish (St. Joseph the Worker Parish). This donation
will support the students in the Dominican Republic.
o.C.o.a. (oCoa CommuniTy ouTreaCh assoCiaTion): This
organization represents a group of dedicated
Canadians and Dominicans who are looking to make
positive changes in the Province of Ocoa, outside the
city of San Jose De Ocoa. This year, Scribbles donated
$500 of various school supplies to this organization.
Thanks to Ann Kalath, a St. Elizabeth alumni, who
brought this wonderful community to our attention.
sT. John paul The GreaT family CenTre (JpTGfC): Scribbles
also donated to St. John Paul The Great Family Centre
located in the heart of the Jane and Steeles corridor.
To help students in literacy and numeracy, students at
the Centre received donations of over $500 in reading
books, art and school supplies.
Pope Francis said: To love God and neighbour is not
something abstract, but profoundly concrete. It means
seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be
served, to serve him concretely. Scribbles for Success
hopes to make a difference in the lives of those who
are less fortunate. We believe that in serving others
we are living out Jesus’s mission. On behalf of all
the charitable organizations, Scribbles for Success
would like to thank the St. Elizabeth community for
participating and donating in support of all these
organizations. God bless!

10. HISTORY
STUDENTS
BRING THE
PAST TO
LIFE!
Mrs. M. Young,
Canadian and
World History
Department
Mrs. Young’s Period 1 history class
(CHC2D1-E) ended their semester with
great enthusiasm and creativity by bringing
history alive in historical museums. Over
several weeks, students collaborated to create
interactive and visually stimulating museums
rich in research and artefacts of our past.
Each day, the classroom was transformed into
a distinct theme from our postwar period,
while students hosted decade stations and
guided their peers through a whirlwind of
information and analysis. Dressing up in
costume and playing teacher for a period
certainly had it’s challenges, but all students
rose to the occasion making this project a huge
success and a memorable way to conclude the
course. Amazing job everyone!
POST-SECONDARY
EDUCATION REVIEW
Mrs. C. Titus, Department Head of Guidance
Now that our grade 12 students have taken
that walk across the stage, they look ahead
to their post-secondary life. For many the
path is laid out, they have received their
offers from the post-secondary institution
of their choice and there is nothing left
to do, but pay the bills. There may be
some though, who did not receive the
expected letter of admission and are now
wondering what their next step will be.
If there were extenuating circumstances
that affected your son or daughter’s grades,
then they should contact the admissions
office of the post-secondary institution
that they wanted to attend to inquire if the
completion of a student profile or written
letter could be submitted for consideration.
In the case where a student fell short of
the admission requirements, they may want
to consider upgrading through summer
school. Again, you should contact the
admissions office to inquire as to whether
this would be an acceptable course of action
for the desired program. In the case where
a student did not receive an admission to
university, they may want to consider a
University Preparation Program. Many
colleges offer one and two-year Liberal
Arts programs that translate into advanced
standing at university. As well, colleges
now offer degree programs that generally
require a lower average than the university
degree program. Both the Ontario
University Application Centre website and
the Ontario College Application website
continue to list programs that are still open
for applications. Graduated students can
research an alternative program that they
may be interested in. A popular option
for some students is to take a GAP year to
explore their interests before attending
university or college. An interesting report
can be found on the guidance website
at seh.ycdsb.ca. Follow the links to
Guidance (Navigation sidebar on left).

workshops workshops anD more workshops!
Mrs. K. Sorbera, Drama Department
As we look back on the 2013 -2014 school year, we
reflect back on the variety of workshops that drama
students experienced this year from Commedia
with writers, producers, and comedians, Phil Luzi
and Sandra Bataglini; Acting for the Camera
and Audition Prep with Director, Earl Nanu;
Costume Designer and Sharadon College Instructor,
Jane Edmondson; Stage Combat with Daniel
Levinson; and Master Class in Acting with York
University; and Shakespeare in the Classroom with members of the Stratford
Shakespearian Festival. In the workshops, our goal
is to show students that there are many facets of
the performing arts industry, not only acting. We
bring in artists who are working in the industry in
a variety of areas who have a diverse background in
education and experience. Showing students that
there are many different opportunities in the arts
is important because it gives them the ability to
consider other areas in the arts they never knew
existed. Whether students are thinking of a career
in the arts or a life-long love of the arts, we want
them to have fun doing it!

11. YEAR-END MESSAGE FROM OUR
TRUSTEES
Mrs. Teresa Ciaravella and Mrs. Cathy Ferlisi
We extend our thanks to you for your ongoing
support and commitment to the values and goals of
Catholic education. This is also the time of year that
we salute the graduating class of 2014 and bid them
farewell. Whether you will be entering the workforce,
college or university, we wish you great success. To
our RAP graduates, congratulations and thank you
for your continued support of this regional program.
We extend our sincere thanks to each member of
the Catholic School Council. Your hard work makes
St. Elizabeth the best that it can be. Involved parents
really do make a difference! Best wishes to teachers
and other staff members who are retiring. We also
thank the school administrators at St. Elizabeth
Catholic High School. Your leadership, dedication and
passion for providing quality Catholic education are
very much appreciated. We look forward to working
with you next year. May you enjoy a stress-free and
refreshing summer vacation, and may God hold you in
the palm of His hand.
THE ‘YES I CAN’ AWARD IS AWARDED TO
MARCO DIPAOLO!
Mrs. M. Elacqua, Student Services Department
We would like to congratulate one of our former students, Marco
DiPaolo on being a recipient of the provincial ‘Yes I Can’ award in the
area of ‘Transition”. The ‘Yes I Can’ awards honour children and youth
with exceptionalities who shine. The Council for Exceptional Children
has recognized the accomplishments of thousands of students since
the program started in 1982. The Transition Award is an award that
distinguishes a student’s achievement in mastering activities that will lead
to successful experiences in various areas, for example: work, vocational
training and/or independent living. These students have demonstrated
greater independence and responsibility in both academic and areas of
personal growth. In his final year at St. Elizabeth, Marco was able to
demonstrate achievement in various work and vocational activities and was
a great help to his teachers and office staff with his various duties. We would
like to wish Marco continued success in his future endeavours!
ST. ELIZABETH
MODEL UNITED
NATIONS
“Making history by
playing a part in our
future.”
Mrs. M. Young,
Canadian and World
History Department
On June 6, student
delegates from the St. Elizabeth Model UN Club participated in the tenth
annual United Nations York Catholic Assembly. For weeks, students
prepared and learned the ‘ins and outs’ of political diplomacy and debating.
Twenty-two awesome St. Elizabeth students representing eight countries
joined hundreds of other students from across the board for a day-long
UN conference of debate and resolution. It was a fantastic opportunity for
students of all grade levels to test their public speaking ability and negotiation
skills, all the while representing the foreign national policy of their assigned
country. The conference provided students with an amazing chance to interact
with their peers from other York Catholic District School Board schools and
to confidently represent our school. Each and every student’s enthusiasm,
preparation and maturity contributed to a very successful conference. All our
students put forth an amazing effort and we look forward to equal success
next year. Mrs. Young would like to thank all the grade 12 students who
participated in this initiative and will be graduating. We wish you luck in
your future endeavours. All other students of our school are encouraged to
come out and join our club as well as experienced members in next year’s
conference. Thank you for making history by playing a part in our future.

The Catholic School Council wishes you a
fond farewell as our 2013-2014 academic
year comes to a close. Looking back, it seems
like we just got off the ground! We had a
busy year full of interesting meetings and
presentations. As the new Chair this year,
I feel as if I have just gotten to know a few
parents, as I stepped into the role, and the
year has flown by. I would like to thank
the many wonderful members of council for
their support and guidance this year. We
couldn’t have done half of the things we
accomplished without you. The time you have
spent volunteering, the dedication you have
shown and the efforts you have made for the
benefit of all the students of St. Elizabeth
is wonderful and sincerely appreciated.
A special thank you goes out to the families
who supported our fundraising campaign
this year. With your generosity, we were
able to purchase almost everything requested
by all departments on their wishlists. Our
students benefited from your donations and
the items that were purchased enhanced
their learning and will continue to do so this
coming year. To the teachers, support staff
and administration, we also thank you for
yourhardwork,devotionandprofessionalism
in maintaining the high level of education for
which St. Elizabeth is known. Finally, to
