eStandards conference: Next steps for standardization in large scale eHealth ...chronaki
This document provides an introduction and agenda for the First eStandards Conference. The conference will discuss shaping a culture of high eStandards to support large-scale eHealth deployment across Europe. Four key challenges of large-scale eHealth will be examined: understanding healthcare specifics, connecting within and outside the health system, advancing digital innovation, and documenting best practices. The case for standardization to realize visions like engaged citizens and knowledge dissemination will be made. Collaboration across stakeholders like healthcare, technology, workforce and citizens is needed. Key questions to be discussed are the drivers for large-scale eHealth deployment, essential standards to enable safe and cost-effective implementation, and actions for standards development organizations and policymakers.

1. Two physician-led organizations in England are supporting people with complex needs through care planning and new service models.
2. Physician leadership and entrepreneurial energy have helped the organizations engage practices in change and realize growth, while external factors like funding and data have constrained progress.
3. Both organizations provide a range of services rooted in general practices, but targeting high-risk patients on practice lists poses challenges around standardization and efficiency compared to segmenting patients to new services.

The document discusses revalidation in the Australian context, noting that mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) has been in place since 2010 but varies by field of practice. It outlines the Medical Board of Australia's progress, including commissioning research on options and community expectations and establishing expert advisory groups. Pilot models of revalidation will be tested from 2016-2017 before potential adoption and implementation in 2017-2018. Key challenges for Australia include that legislation currently mandates CPD not revalidation, determining the purpose of revalidation, and deciding on universal or risk-based approaches while considering feasibility, acceptability and cost.

Annual BASIS Conference 2013, Twickenham Stadium, 12 November 2013
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need access to clinical samples for core research and development activities like progressing assets and launching new products, but there are several barriers that limit their access within UK biobanks. These barriers include biobanks not being adequately promoted, lack of awareness from researchers, no unified infrastructure, slow access committees and governance requirements. Overcoming these barriers will require action from regulatory bodies like the Health Research Authority and Human Tissue Authority, patient groups, and improvements to areas like cost recovery, customer awareness and management, operational processes, and documentation standardization by biobanks. Utilizing UK bioresources benefits long term sustainability and the UK economy.
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition (RHSC) and its Maternal Health Supplies Caucus work to ensure global access to affordable, high-quality reproductive and maternal health supplies. The RHSC has 328 members from various sectors and its vision is that all people can access contraceptive supplies for better health. The Maternal Health Supplies Caucus was formed in 2012 to address bottlenecks undermining access to essential medicines for maternal health. The Caucus has published briefs on key maternal medicines and business cases to increase investment in their production. Persistent challenges to access include issues with policy harmonization, forecasting, quality assurance, financing, and specific product presentations or storage concerns. Next steps involve market shaping strategies and field testing

Benefits of engaging with the Specialised Services Commissioning Innovation FundPM Society
The Specialised Services Commissioning Innovation Fund (SSCIF) aims to rapidly evaluate innovative models of care, pathways, technologies and medicines to generate evidence on quality, cost and impact for NHS specialised services. The SSCIF will fund evaluation projects jointly with manufacturers to fill data gaps preventing national commissioning decisions. Successful projects could result in widespread adoption across the NHS and discounted national procurement agreements, presenting an unrivalled opportunity for partnership and adoption of transformative innovations.
