2. Background
 The scheme of courses for mining engineering
degree program at UET is traditionally very rigid
where all the students follow the exact same path
for their degrees
 To add some flexibility to the scheme, the
department initiated the idea of offering elective
courses in social sciences and interdisciplinary
engineering (technical), to be offered in the junior
(3rd) and senior (4th) years
 The junior and senior students were surveyed for
their choice of social science and technical
electives

Senior (27) students of UET Lahore
 Total participants (N) =49

1. Understanding Psychology and
Human Behavior
1. Sociology and Development
2. Logic & Critical Thinking
3. Entrepreneurship
4. Chinese Language
5. Introduction to Sociology
6. Organizational Behavior
7. Professional Ethics
8. Social Anthropology

5. Results
 A overwhelming majority of students
picked Psychology (33%) and Professional
Ethics (26%) as their first preference for
Social Science Electives
 Entrepreneurship appeared at the 3rd
number with 17% opting for this elective
 All the other electives appeared lesser
than 7% with none opting for Social
Anthropology
