2. In St. Petersburg there are many
beautiful buildings. I like St. Isaac's
Cathedral most of all, because I have
visited it. Saint Isaac's Cathedral or
Isaakievskiy Sobor is a great building
which is situated in the centre of
St.Petersburg.
3. The church on St Isaac's Square was
ordered by Tsar Alexander I.
4. A specially appointed commission
examined several designs, including the one
of the French-born architect Auguste de
Montferrand (1786–1858).
5. Montferrand's design was criticised by some
members of the commission. They didn`t like
his project.
6. There is a legend that Americans wanted
to buy the temple. And they said that they had
removed the Cathedral in the United States in
pieces on their ships. In return, the American
government had proposed to pave the
cobblestone streets of Leningrad.
7. Today Saint Isaac's Cathedral is one of
the best Russian cathedrals on the territory of
Europe. In addition, the Cathedral is rightfully
considered to be one of the most visited
museums in St. Petersburg.
8. I would like to advise all my
classmates to visit this museum because
it’s a very interesting place where you can
learn a lot of about your history and
culture.
