2. New Bells in Pilsen

• Pilsen, one of the most interesting towns in the Czech Republic, became together with Belgian
Monse the European Capital of Culture 2015. Visitors can take advantage of the offer of more
than 600 events including exhibitions, performances and other projects during this year.
• In the time of the Opening Ceremony (14 January, 2015) you could listen to the Bell Symphony on
the highest church tower in the Czech Republic, St. Vitus Cathedral. Everybody could appreciate
the beautiful sound of five bells (one was old, four new ones) after long seventy years. To explain,
they were destroyed several times in the past. For example during WWII.

4. • Ice hockey World Championship.
• After 11 years there will be the Ice Hockey World Championship in the
Czech Republic. It will be in May in Prague and Ostrava. Prague has O2
Arena for 18 000 people and Ostrava Cez Arena for 11 000 spectators.
• It is expected an audience record. Mascots are two Czech animated
characters: Bob and Bobek.

5. Czech soldiers received medals for Afghanistan
• Chief of Satff Petr Pavel and Deputy Defence Minister Jiří Borovec
distinguis 25 soldiers and female soldiers for their service in
Afghanistan.
• These awards were presented to members of the field surgical team
in Kabul and members of representation at the headquarters of
coalition operations in the Afghan capital.
• Two soldiers received honors for his service still Merit Defense
Minister and Honorary Badge of Merit.
6. Biathlon World Championship
• The finish of the World Championship was very good for a Czech
biatlon team. Czech mixed relay won the 1st. place (Veronika Vítkova,
Gabriela Soukalova, Michal Slesingr, Ondrej Moravec). Then Gabriela
Soukalova won the 2nd. place in endurance race on 15 km. Ondrej
Moravec also won the 3rd. place in endurance race on 20 km. And he
was the second in race “mass strat”.
• The World Championship was in Finland in town Kontiolahti.
