Peach leaf curl is a fungal disease that affects stone fruits like peaches and nectarines. The fungus lies dormant over winter and infects emerging leaves in early spring, causing them to appear thick, lumpy and blistered, and changing color to pale green, pink or purple. Infected flowers fall and reduce fruit production, while fruit can develop reddish pimples and drop. To control the disease, homeowners should clean up fallen leaves in fall to remove spore hiding places, apply a copper-based fungicide before bud burst in winter, and remove infected leaves and fruit to prevent the fungus from spreading.
