How many of us have
a scar on our body?
Each scar tells a story.
How many of us have
scars in our hearts?
Where do these
scars come from?
Eph. 2:1-3
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions
and sins, in which you used to live when you
followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of
the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at
work in those who are disobedient. All of us also
lived among them at one time, gratifying the
cravings of our flesh and following its desires and
thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature
deserving of wrath.
Where do these
scars come from?
Eph. 2:1-3
Sin in our lives
Satan had his way with us.
Deep wounds were inflicted.
How did these wounds heal?
Eph. 2:4-5
But because of his great love for us, God, who is
rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when
we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you
have been saved.
God’s love and mercy
healed them.
Only the scars remain.
Where are these scars?
They are on our hearts and in
our minds.
They are healed wounds
from our pasts.
What are they NOT for?
To produce guilt in our lives.
To keep us down.
To prevent us from enjoying
God’s grace.
What are they for?
To keep us humble. (2 Cor. 12:7-9)
2 Cor. 12:7-9
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming
conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a
messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I
pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But
he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for
my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore
I will boast all the more gladly about my
weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on
me.
What are they for?
To keep us humble. (2 Cor. 12:7-9)
To remind us of God’s love.
(Col. 1:12-14)
Col. 1:12-14
…and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has
qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy
people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued
us from the dominion of darkness and brought us
into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we
have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
What are they for?
To keep us humble. (2 Cor. 12:7-9)
To remind us of God’s love.
(Col. 1:12-14)
To keep us from going back.
To help us share each other’s
struggles.
